New 2257 regs in theory will make Youtube very tame - anything of a sexual nature (even simulated sex, such as scenes from a TV show or movie) will require documentation indexed by YouTube.

The question is can they effectively monetize that 100 million per day without destroying the company. If they were showing 100 million videos they owned then maybe they could but they aren't.

They would have to put ads into the videos in the beginning and end. That would effectively kill their popularity.

I would say they might be worth about 70-100 mil but anything over that is a major crapshoot betting on the hard 5-6 roll.

my question is how many of those 100m videos are to Asia? Every looked at the most viewed movies of the day? A ton of them are usually foreign language and worthless bandwidth and profit sucking crap. Anyone that would pay more than 10m for youtube instead of starting their own would be foolish.

Huge loses + business built around copyright enfringment + impending lawsuits /= 1B.

Well they finally found a way to make file sharing extremely profitable (if they find a buyer, which im sure they will)

This is the trend I see in the future, startup costs getting larger for online businesses and companies spending more and more money to get the surfer.

Good point - Less competition in the long run

Bad point - Less profit, more costs

Great for surfers, shitty for webmasters

We get all the US TV shows too mate. House, Scrubs, Lost, you name it.

Advertising fees come from how many viewers you have per given time. At a 100 million viewers per day, you can definitely charge a whole shitload.

Besides, I'm sure there's a way to localize the advertising content based on the viewer's ISP.

I really hope they do get shutdown or they lose a significant amount of money in lawsuits, if they don't then you'll start seeing a huge number of websites like it taking off and its really going to hurt some online industries even more than what it is already doing.
