Just wondering...
If so, what level of certification do you have? Do you get to dive often? Where is your favorite place to dive? Blah blah blah, etc, etc, etc...

As far as where I have only dove in Hawaii, but I plan to make a couple of trips later this year, so I would be interested in other fav. spots as well.
However, I'm VERY partial to warm water, off a boat, type of dives. I like Night dives too...

Advanced open water diver here....night diving, navagation, deep water and Nitrox.
The coolest place I have dove? The Bahamas...off of Freeport. I dove a wreck in 100' of water 50' from the continental shelf (5,000' verticle drop). That was cool...and also SPID City while I was there and did the shark dive with Xanadu Way cool! |

I'll never forget my first open water dive. It was in Falmouth, England and it was bloody freezing! It was a shallow water (about 10 metres) wreck dive - the mast of the wreck was poking out of the water, and the boat master managed to pilot the boat right into it. We were in a RIB, and the bastard managed to puncture the inflated section that I was sat on!
It was great when I finally managed to get into the water though - I was atacked by a Cuckoo Wrasse! My buddy found this so hilarious that I could hear him laughing underwater. I only wish I had the time to do more diving... |

volante - You need ot MAKE the time for diving!
I'm Advanced, btw, and soon to be Master. I will be finishing my Rescue Diver in about a week, which is all I need, since I've already got 5 specialties. Immediately after that, I'm going for my divemaster. Just got the books... damn it's a lot of reading! You also have to do 4 timed swims: 800 yards mask/snorkel/fins, 400 yards with nothing, 100 yard tired diver tow in full gear, and 15 minutes of treading/floating with your hands out of the water for the last 2 minutes. Should be fun... As for my favorite places to go, I too am a warm water kind of guy. I love Cozumel (drift diving rules). The Caymans are great, and southern Florida (West Palm down through the Keys) is good too... One of my all time favorite dives was last year in Key West. We got on the boat and the guy said, "Oh, by the way. We've got a lobster license for the entire boat, so if anyone wants to try lobstering, just let me know." I was the only one interested at first (my friends were actually making fun of me), but once I had that first lobster in the bag, everyone jumped on the band wagon. Let's just put it this way - we ate very well for two nights! If any of you will be in Key West for Fantasy Fest next year, we should meet up for some lobster dives. I know I'll be there. TB

By far, the best place to dive in the states is Bimini . . . just over the horizon from Miami. White sand bottom, reefs, ship-wrecks, sharks, Gulf Stream wanderers, sunken "roads" from Atlantis. . .15 to 80 ft. aqua water.

I was an avid snorkeler up until I got curious about diving. Of all the things in my life, it ranks as one of my most awesome experiences.
If you have never dived, and find yourself wondering about it while on vacation.. do it. Do it, don't hesitate.. |

I did my training and took my first dive in Mexico, near an outter island just outside of Acapulco bay. No certification needed, the guy that trained me had been scuba-diving daily for 45 years. It was incredible, and it was only forty bucks US. :D
Fuck certification. My buddy paid over $700 US to get him and his idiot wife *certified* in Hawaii. You think they learned what I did? Not a chance. But I highly recommend it to anyone, there's nothing like it.

I scuba dive, tho not very often. The Red Sea is great! Also dived in Thailand last year, Pattaya is really something else - traffic jams at 2 am ;) . Will be trying for Mauritus this summer. Barrier Reef is next on the list, but probably next year.
Strange thing is, I have a phobia for water, probably initiated from having atched Jaws in my early childhood, so I always need someone close to me to come along, else I'm terrified of the deep blue sea - but if I have someone like my girl along, it's the most enjoyable experience on earth. |

I've heard the Red Sea is great (hehe - just fixed a typo. I wrote "Red Sex"). I need to get over there some day.
Looks to me like the common theme throughout this thread is that scuba diving can be one of the most enjoyable experiences ever. I know it is for me... Keep on diving!

I have had my scuba ticket for 8 years, prolly havn't actually scuba'd for about 4 though.
The best dive I had was at Julian Rocks (near byron bay) on the east coast of Australia, came out the other side of a swim thru arch and three 8ft grey nurse sharks were schooling on the other side. One of the guides grabbed the tail of one of the sharks and got towed for a few metres before the shark shook him off. When we got back the owner of the dive school ripped the guide a new asshole as a newlywed had been taken by a grey nurse at the same spot 12 months earlier. These days I have one of these http://www.powerdive.com/Products/Mo...eckSnorkel.htm I cant wait for lobster season to start, and down here its always abalone season |
