I looked further ...What they've done is given google most everything. You get google results with links to the side to look in yahoo's directory. I'm in Southern CA so maybe it hasnt made it to whereever you are. Looks great..i was hoping yahoo's revamp would make this much sense...now maybe they will not lose there traffic base. All relevant stuff now

So, Yahoo bought Google then eh?

That's the only reason I could think of that they would give all their search traffic to Google.

yahoo used to send their "non-directory" traffic to AV back in the day, now it's google. they're not actually giving their traffic away, google/av just gave them search results inside of their own page.. it's more of a partnership then anything else.

Yahoo pays Google to be able to use its search results.

Didn't take Yahoo long..

I believe the dmoz directories belongs to Netscape or I know it use to, which is what you are getting on Google. Fuck man they are getting BIGGER...

I did a search the other day, and found something I posted in a Newsgroup in Feb. 1999... Google owns them or the Index's

How in the hell do you send people looking for FREE porn to a paysite, that's what Yahoo was doing and some of the search engines are doing the same.

That business model will not work.

If they are looseing money then they have to come up a Diff. way of making it... Traffic is golden.. but if you abuse it, what happens.

Watch the smart search engines that have been charging.

Or better still the smart ones never did charge... better believe they were watching ...

I noticed some big changes at google the past couple of days - it seems they are not taking any url submissions- only through DMOZ. When I use the link:url search to check link popularity a lot of my sites report no or few links, even though they are sending the same amount of traffic. Even big link list sites don't seem to have many url's linked to them e.g. www.persiankitty.com has only 1,200 and www.link-o-rama.com only 1050 . This is only a fraction of the results from Altavista. Does anyone know what's going on over at google?

Big changes are coming at Yahoo.

Maybe they will use Night Surf for all of their adult searches. :-)

A little unrelated, but Yahoo! is changing it's front page layout soon...to provide more space for ads.

I thought it was amusing that they don't even list it.

Yahoo is in a rock and a hard-place.

When Yahoo switched to Google from Inktomi for search results, they really helped cemet Google as the new search King. Now the contract with Google is up for renewal.

Yahoo PAYS Google for results.

Inktomi is actually going to PAY Yahoo to provide results for pages searches.
Good old Ink is really up against the wall to sign Yahoo to a contract.

Also, Yahoo is trying to increase their own search traffic, so Google is a competitor.

Yahoo should have bought Google two years ago...now Google wants close to a billion or so I think...

It will be interesting to see what happens...Does anyone have any other info?

I think we may find out that these two things are actually related. What uses the most space on the front page of Yahoo? It's the category listings. If they got rid of the category listings and went to a simple search system like Google, think of all the space they would have on the front for more ads.

Maybe not, but it's possible.
