If you were an NBA coach and had to build a team...
around any one star player, who would it be?
My pick is Kobe Bryant hands down.

Yao Ming
He is still a couple of years from coming together as a man and a player. He will win several Championships before his career is over. |

Lebron first, Wade second - Kobe wouldn't even make my top 10 - he isn't anybody you want to build a team around.

Not even in your top ten?
You are a fool if u can you pick 10 better players than Kobe. The only reason Wade and James are even worth a comparsion is becuase of how young they are.

I'm really torn between Dwayne Wade and Lebron. Wade is fresh in my head but I can't help but think that with the right tools around him Lebron is going to do some really special stuff.
Kobe? Not even worth mentioning |

I'd say Lebron. The kid is only 21 guys and already an MVP caliber player. He really has no one on his team either. Put him on Miami and he wins a title too instead of Wade.

PF: Karl Malone SF: Larry Bird C: Wilt Chamberlain SG: Michael Jordan PG: Magic Johnson However the 2005 LA Lakers learned that a starting lineup of great players doesn't always gel together very well. So in that case I'd go with... PF: Kevin McHale SF: Scottie Pippen C: Wilt Chamberlain SG: Michael Jordan PG: John Stockton |

I'd pick LeBron over any player all-time. There has never been a player at his age to have the talent he has...and it's been that way since his early teens...it's not going to change as he gets older. If he stays healthy his entire career, he'll be the greatest player of all-time.

I'd take a skilled big man over a g/sf any day of the week. I'd have to say either Tim Duncan or Kevin Garnett. Shaq possibly but he's starting to break down. You need an interior presence at both ends, it makes the game easier. You can play on the perimeter, it just makes the game harder.
I don't think there's any comparison with going big or small. A solid big man is a rare commodity now days. Athletic wing players are a dime a dozen. Granted Bryant and James are extremely skilled but when you have a dominant post player lanes open up that otherwise wouldn't be there. It makes it easier to spread the floor and get to the basket. Not to mention the importance of having someone that can protect the rim on the defensive end. |

I think you are forgetting that Kobe has already won 3 rings and is a better player now then when he won them. He's just underrated because he has ZERO talent around him. Miami had one of the deepest teams ever. Half the team is hall of fame bound. Dwayne was certainly MVP in the playoffs but he is injury prone and may not be reliable playoffs time. If you were to draft somebody right now it would be Lebron since he is so young and still getting better. Kobe is probably a close second because he still has plenty of time left in him.

Kobe won three rings with Shaq, a dominant big man. Kobe is extremely talented but he is mentally flawed. I also like Wayde but he's a slasher and a huge reason why he's breaking out is because of the interior presence of the Heat. Take away those interior players and he doesn't dominate the way he has been of late. James is with out a doubt the best of the three and he also has the most upside but I'd still take a big man over those three any day.
Dominate big men are few and far between these days which makes them all the more valuable. I think you'd also have to take into consideration how you would build around your anchor. It would be easier to find athletic wing players that can slash and fill the lanes than it would be to find complimentary big's that have decent footwork let alone be able to catch the ball. Big guys like Duncan and Garnett are much, much harder to find than an athletic 6'6 guy. |
