Israel was created in 1948 as part of repairations to European Jews after Nazi atrocities... however, the middle eastern nations will NEVER accept Israel into the fold.. it's not the same race or even close to the same culture, and as far as they arabs are concerned, the Jews are on THEIR land (well, it was their land until world war two).

UN troops were and are in Lebanon. UN troops are always ineffective. Move in NATO forces if one wants an effective force.

UN troops are no different to NATO troops or any others.

The function required is more related to cooling a scenario than bombing the shit out of it. A mix of UN forces with a mandate is clearly more appropriate in this scenario and, little doubts, that is the way it is heading.

NATO does not represent the international community and it is not an "independent broker".



PS Iraq has recently been considering a UN peace force in that country - it's obvious why. US forces were never trained to handle any scenario that involved "firm diplomacy" - this has been demonstrated for decades. Of course, it would let Bush off the hook for the shit he started if that did happen.

And the Bedouins and all the other people that lived there, like the Palestinians who were displaced when the country was created? It most certainly never belonged to Israel, except from Biblical promises and a hope and a prayer.

Gaza in particular, was never anything other than a concentration camp Mr S. Over half the population live in eight refugee camps. One in particular, with one of the highest densities of population in the world - 79,000 living in two thirds of a square mile (kilometer). Over 75% of the current estimated population of around 1.4 million are registered refugees.

To expect anything other than an explosion from places like Gaza where people are under oppression and with little resources, is like living in lala land.

Absorb and learn Sexy - depending on the mandate under which any troops operate is the criteria as to whether they are effective. Currently UN troops in Lebanaon do not have an appropriate mandate and this is currently being addressed.

If troops are mandated to hand out "aid packages" - that is what they will do. That is currently not the mandate of UN troops in Lebanon.

Where do you get this "effective force" from? Are you now suggesting a fighting force for this region? If so, that is all the US could offer, - but sometimes there is need for some common sense and firmness in negotiating a calm in an area - that does not mean bombing the shit out of it.

Basically you are not even qualified even discuss the Middle East - you live in the US and are fed the biggest pile of shit leaving you to form opinions which are both irrelvant and ignorant. Bottom line - you have nothing to offer the Middle East or any other nation.

If I am not mistaken and going by memory the UN mandate in Lebanon was to help the Lebanese government to rid itself of Hezballa and any other armed militias as provided by UN Resolution 1559. Hezballa is stronger than ever in Lebanon. Yes indeed UN force and diplomacy worked very well. They will not be quite as strong when Israel is finished with them.
