Get out of Washington!!!!

Could be a load of horse shit? Nonetheless interesting

Received in an email:

"If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000 troops in the
Iraq theatre of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of
2112
deaths, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.

The firearm death rate in Washington D.C. is 80.6 per 100,000 for the
same
period.

That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in
the
U.S.Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the
nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: The U.S. should immediately pull out of Washington."

He?s a gun loving cowboy that was voted into power by millions of other gun loving cowboys, so I really don?t think it?s as simple as banning fire arms altogether. Votes count more that lives do.

I remember reading there were talks that a America was going to do something similar to what was done here in Australia, a semi automatic buy back. Though I think the logistics of it, in a nation as large as America are far to great.

That'd never work, for many reasons. Mostly, being: Every Aussie I know respects their rules and laws to at least some degree. Wether us backwoods folks (like Alice Springs), or the 'So Liberal I Had My Penis Removed, Only To Graft It On Again' (Think 'John Howard Folowers on Crack and PCP'), neither trust or support the government fully - nor are we afraid of them. As an aside, I do find it strange how afraid every Aussie I know, from NSW to ACT are scared shitless of theirs, even those in the Defence Force.

Considering that Austaila was founded by crimials that quite ironic.

The NRA tries to promote this myth that the more citzens that have guns the safer we are. Someone please show me the gun death rate of Dodge City Kansas circa 1870-1890 vs today. According to this theory there should have been LESS guns deaths durring the old west than today. I'm 100% it's quite the opposite. The fact that if I'm in a restaurant and some robber comes in with a gun, that some Dirty Harry wannabe that can't hit the broad side of a barn to save his life, also has a gun does NOT make me feel safer.

Your statements are quite strange; first inferring that since they came from criminials (..they must be criminals), and "GUNS ARE BAD" are from two different sides of the coin, usually.

The fact that there were fewer people 150 years ago, and the fact that 'if you didn't learn to protect yourself have your shit stolen, and/or die' lends to a bit more credibility of the days of past. However, there are several laws in place that make it difficult to obtain several weapons (not impossible, of course), and yes, you can still buy a 22 that will put a hole in something. So will anything abused or used improperly.

Basically, I guess I'm saying that if you're trying to make a point beyond personal statements and conjecture, you've failed to do so.

Washington, DC has an amazingly high rate of killings for decades. It's unfortunate but this is nothing new. Remember Mayor Barry? You know, the Mayor of DC that was busted on camera doing crack with a hooker. He was reelected when he got out of jail.

Parts of DC are the safest in the world and parts of it seem third world. It will be interesting if we see more cities mimic this.

Basically I can't help if you are obtuse. Yes ther were fewer people and more deaths buy guns. Hmmmmm.

Show me in the constitution were it says the government can restrict which type of guns you own. This is where the gun lovers logic fails. They think the 2nd Admendment means it's carte blanche on owning a gun. well it's not.

First of all the 2nd Admendment says the right to bear ARMS, not guns. Are guns arms? Sure, so are grenade launchers, tanks and nuclear missles. You can't own those can you? Using the gun lovers logic those thing should also be available to everyone. After all it says my right to bear ARMS shall NOT be INFRINGED. Well isn't that what they are doing by denying me my right to own a tank? A tank is ARMS and I'm being infringed from owning one. See the fact is the while you have a right to own arms, we have had over 200 years of precedent that also says the government can tell you which arms you can and can't own because that's exactly what they have been doing for that long. So any gunlover that says gun laws are un-Constitutional are in fact full of shit because if they were they would have been overturned 200 years ago.

About 60% of DC is black. I'm betting a large chunk of that 60% is poor. What else would you expect?

umm that doesn't take into account all the wounded soldiers or Iraqi's that have been killed or wounded. So I think I'd take my chances driving through DC vs Bagdad or anywhere in Iraq for that matter.
