showing us the 'whois' for five-elements.com doesn't help.

It looks like they didn't renew it with NetSol. I just added a year to the registration, maybe it will come back soon. It might take a day to update, though. Not sure.

cwnic? or netsol? your registrar is netsol. if you did not transfer it to cwnic's registrar (or them if they're their own...) then it was a waste of dough.

if you transfer registrars you have to do it [i believe] 60 days before the expiry date (so lazy people like us don't transfer at the last minute to the cheapest registrar to save some dough.)

i would renew them with netsol, then transfer them all over to opensrs. they're way more flexible and cost-effective than netsol will EVER be.

singer, if you would have taken that to the next logical step and queried those listed namservers directly you would see that we are indeed answering authoritive for this domain. Of course, that doesn't help much when the domain doesn't exist in the root servers any longer. ;)

I wish this was my issue, I could fix it quicker. I can't say too much though, I've done the same and wondered wtf was wrong as well.

Anyways, the rest can be taken private, no need to air anything on the boards here. Pete has my contact info (emergency and otherwise) and was in contact with me before this post.

The real criminal is probably Verisign (as usual). I just transfered a few domains off them, and the fucking e-mail they send to approve the transfer is borderline criminal IMO. They basically send you a fucking *SPAM* with all the preachy "verisign rocks" BS all over it, then in the MIDDLE of the god damned e-mail, they have a paragraph blurb on how to approve your domain transfer out. I ignored the first couple I got of those as spam, and am sure others have done so as well.
peace all,

-Phil

yeah I had a problem with netsol when I tried transfering a domain 2 weeks before it expired. After losing money to the new registrar I was trying to transfer to, Netsol sends me an email saying I have to transfer *at least* 30 days in advance. Gotta pay Netsol if you're in that time frame before you switch.

yeah i love that company. even though i transferred all my domains off there 2 years ago, i still get "special offers" and shit from them, even though i'm my own RSP now (not like they know that...) but they *should not* have an active email address for me on record, since i have no business with them anymore.

they harvest off their own database just like all the other fucking cocksuckers out there. the company's integrity is as good as AOL, as far as i'm concerned. i'm waiting when the two will team up, so AOL can cheat domain names off of everyone they claim are holding "copyright violations..."

don't even get me started about the AOL.ORG story...

For your semi-important domains, you should sign up for the FREE Snap Names monitoring service. They email you if there are any changes to your domain registration, including expiring, change of owner, etc.

For your really really important domains, you should spend the $69 and sign up for the Snap service that will monitor them and attempt to grab them if they drop. It's worth it for a few bucks.

why not just pay $10 per year and reserve that for 7 years, instead of $69 to try to "get it back" if i've lost it?

i'd rather have my domain paid for for 7 years than some spam-happy service charging me $69 for who knows how long to "monitor" my domain.

ah well, heading back to bed. Thanks again mrfiction.

I think I may code something over the next week or so that will auto-notify customers if their domains they host with us are about to expire. As previously stated, it's about the last thing checked (even for me, when I've seen it a couple times now). Shouldn't be too much effort...

Also, traceroute.org is another great place for traceroutes.

thanks much (and thanks to the few people who ICQ'ed me talling me a customer was down and posting to GFY. At least someone is keeping me honest, eh?) ;)

-Phil

holy shit. it's $69 *A YEAR* ?

i could pay for 6 years fully, or 7 years for $1 more and not have to worry about my domain for that long. you people are actually buying this $69 a year service? i'm in the wrong business, i could write a silly script to monitor and re-register a domain for you, but i wouldn't because it would be *fucking pointless* - i'll just sell you a domain or renewal fee at my cost ($10/year) and be done with it.

For your really really important domains, you should spend the $69 and sign up for the Snap service that will monitor them and attempt to grab them if they drop. It's worth it for a few bucks.

Wow what a whirlwind of ICQ messages haha!! And I was wondering why I was losing so much traffic! ;)

Mr. Fiction is my HERO!! Haha I LOVE this guy! Damn I owe you!

As for why this was on netsol in the first place -- long story but probably had something to do w/ the lame 60 day rule so I just kept paying the $35 out of being lazy -- then I discovered that I could transfer domains out of netsol no problem w/ less than 60 days so I decided to transfer this one to my favorite registrar cwnic.com -- either I deleted the confirmation like Phil said or God knows what happened to the email -- BTW cwnic does give me email notification of changes made -- BUT the problem is that cyberwurx just added a new email system called "cwmail" -- I transfered over to that system on the 30th -- but I haven't activated that yet so for the last 5 days I haven't received email on some of my domains... so maybe this is why I wasn't aware of the problems... Christ, so to make a long story short -- thanks again Mr. Fiction -- I owe you one...

I just got off the phone w/ cyberwurx and they got my email working again so anyway thanks for all of your time. I feel like such a slacker for not staying on top of my shit...

i believe all local registrars update their data in real-time, for the most part. netsol probably doesn't because they're a big old dinosaur. i know that opensrs updates all it's data instantly (not sure about renewal info...) - at least locally on the registrar's whois server. of course it takes the 24-48 hour period to get it confirmed to the master registry.

Thanks PersianKitty...

Mr. Fiction, how much did that renewal cost you?

BTW: I just spent an hour going through all my junk email and damn if I could find any email from Verisign/Netsol -- it seems they totally ignored my transfer request. I've never had a problem transfering domains from them before -- I wonder if they just got more greedy.

It barely cost anything. I just didn't want the name to drop on ya. Very hard to get one back once Ultra Search has it.

You would not be the first person that NetSol has expired a domain on without the person being aware of it. They suck. On the other side of the coin, if it wasn't for people letting their domains expire, what would some of us do with our spare time?
