So I read Rich Dad Poor Dad

I had never heard of it, until DH made a thread about going to one of the seminar things.

While I can see some of the things he talks about, I don't get that at 9 years old he started soaking up and conceptualizing all these financial lessons.

If so, he was a 9 year old that was very, very unique.

He's full of shit. Says a lot of stuff without actually saying anything if you know what I mean. Also he lies about his life.

your sig gives me bad dreams. scary.

I think what he figured out was to tell us that he started soaking it all up then, when in fact he figured out that if he wrote a book that had a unique claim/idea that he could make some scratch.

I've also heard he's not exactly truthful in his book

Who cares it's because of that book i'm raking in $100k monthly these days. I don't care if it's a lie, it was the equivalent of a swift kick in the ass that told me: get out there and take some risks because the biggest risk is not taking any.

I didn't buy that. 9 year olds like that don't come from the same planet I do.

That is a great quote.

And I agree with alot of what he said about risks. And I totally agree with what he said about assets.

The...wrapping...seemed false to me though.

I'm not saying that what he is saying doesn't motivate, just that perhaps it's a bit "embellished" (sp?)

I belive totally that not taking risks will get you nowhere. without risk there is no reward.

I thought that lesson was to ask for what you want, because no one will just give it to you. He paid them what they were willing to accept

That could very well be. I am painfully literal at times, and have a hard time grasping things that are more...esoteric. (probably not the right word, but the only one I can think of at the moment)

Rich Dad Poor Dad is a great book for begining Entrapanuers.

You have to take his stories in stride, it is part of his schtick to get known, and an angle that normal people can see every day.

As far as his techniques, they are what they are, I think his books, especially his early ones are more about motivation.

I share this sentiment. Brings up the issue: what is more real... the lie or the reality inspired by the lie?

Wasn't the guy a total asshole though? As I recall DH blasted him pretty hard... The guy was charging stupid amounts of money to treat people like a dick. Great moneymaking scheme.

Sure he's a prick, and sure he lies, and sure he's not the perfect picture he'd have you believe he is....

but that doesn't make the message in that book any less real. What he says in the book is true rhetorically... not factually.

Some people can read a quantum physics textbook and not understand a thing and some people can read the ingredients on a bubble gum wrapper and solve the mysteries of the universe. It's all in what you take out of it, not what you take into it with you.
