BTW what did you want to know about superchargers? Basically they do the same job as turbochargers - pump more air/gas into the engine - with the difference that they are (belt) driven by the engine and not the exhaust. That's slightly less efficient, but on the plus side they start working as soon as the engine is running, whereas turbochargers don't kick in until they hit whatever rev range they were designed for. Although modern turbochargers are improved a lot, some still suffer lag when you put your foot down. Not a problem with a supercharger.

good post

not sure what the final drive ratio is on this car, however, there are plenty of uses for 6 gears. Most performance drivers with narrow gears will skip a gear when dragging, however, when pulling out of turns it is nice to have that narrow power band so you can get that engine turning at the right speed to pull you out with the power at your toes.

I don't know how well the car does on the skid pad or how well it throws it's weight around but there's a reason F1 has so many gears.

Narrow power bands.

F1 cars usually have 6 or 7 speeds and they need that many because their torque doesn't really kick in until not far short of the 19,000 or so rpm the engines max out at. So if the engine isn't kept spinning fast, they wouldn't be capable of the acceleration they need.

They've been around since the early 1990's.

I think my first was 1994, on a mk4 twin turbo supra- sweet machine.

Yep, Honda is running at about 19,500 RPM - even tho they are extreemly light engines it still has a high power curve and you'll slow down if you only had 4 or 5 gears to choose from to come out of the corner.

Again, i don't know what the final drive ration of the stang is, or what the top RPM, but i'm sure those gear will help it get out of it's way when pushing its self out of a corner.

worst case, you'll get great gas milage if you can keep it under 50 and in 6th gear.

I know how to drive a five speed, and the sixth gear isn't rocket science. I'm asking how it's best used.

So Rui isnt stupid to say that, he's probably just european like myself. Most europeans learn to drive in manuals, which is why this question would NEVER arise.
Dont waste your time with him...some people just don't get it...

I can relate to that if that 6th gear is in the place where reverse used to be
