And the six gears are indeed fucking with me; I'm not used to it but then again I've only driven the car like eight miles. It's just so odd putting the car into sixth gear where reverse normally is.

I'll post pictures up later when I get them.

The GT 500? I hope so!

Why don't you drive around the mall and ask some fat guy who breathes heavy that would actually give a fuck about your asinine'ing question.

How old are you ? LOL.

I know how to drive a stick. I had a three speed once, but never a six speed. It just feel so strange having that extra gear.

Two cars? Shit - Playboy must be treating you right :thumbsup

I'm working on my second car right now as well :winkwink:

I use my Explorer to get me (and my gear) to and from the shoots but I need something small (convertible) to buzz around town in. Driving that Explorer every day is draining me with gas prices the way they are :Oh crap

forget about first gear and start off in second...

goldrush 07-03-2006 08:26 PM

Perhaps you should have worked out how 6 gears work before you paid for the car.

Fuck you seriously need a lesson.

It goes more like this.

Mash loud pedal to the floor - select gear - side step clutch.

Now you have some choices here
1. - pump throttle so as not to hit the rev limiter OR
2. - to hell with it keep the foot mashed OR
3. - foot mashed but turn the wheel and have some fun :)

Changing up gears - keep foot flat out - select next gear and side step clutch. Careful not to turn yourself around :thumbsup

shack 07-03-2006 08:32 PM

Well if you miss 5th, atleast you'll have a 6th! :)

Scroto 07-03-2006 08:34 PM

Congrats! :thumbsup

NewbieNudes 07-03-2006 09:11 PM

What a heap.

Last time i drove one of those i noted that the steering wheel was:

A) not inline with the center of the drivers seat
and
B) on an angle so that one arm would need to outstretch more than the other when holding the wheel at 2 o'clock and 10 o'clock say

Sorry to be a hater but there are some ergonomic basics with building cars - ford didn't get it on this model.

Kimo 07-03-2006 09:16 PM

an engine with adequate torque does not need many transmission gears.

add shifting gears to a car like a ford mustang is hype, a function of the marketing dept., it does not improve performance, only narrows the ratios between overal gearing. it does give the "performance oriented" driver more fun though, he may think it makes the car go faster. in truth it will probably be slower due to more time shifting.

usually you will see more gears with less horsepower to weight ratio---(18 wheeler trucks, 600cc motorcycles, etc).

and it is true you can drive off in 2nd gear from a dead stop easily in a mustang.

What are you, stupid?

He's not asking how to drive a standard. He's asking how to drive one with six gears instead of the five gears most cars here usually have.

tASSy 07-04-2006 02:32 PM

i had an M5 with 6 gears, it was especially lovely and fast. mmmm. did i miss the money shot already? what kind of car did you get rochard? :winkwink:

edit: i see, nice cobra! i had a mustang long ago i put a 351c in it in shop class in high school. it was a '67. can i drive your car rochard? :winkwink:

Yep. Unless the powerband is very narrow, which is unlikely with a (big) US engine and a supercharger (I assume, since R asked about them), four gears would be plenty. Several have confirmed that with the comments about first and I would guess that 6th is effectively an overdrive.

BTW what did you want to know about superchargers? Basically they do the same job as turbochargers - pump more air/gas into the engine - with the difference that they are (belt) driven by the engine and not the exhaust. That's slightly less efficient, but on the plus side they start working as soon as the engine is running, whereas turbochargers don't kick in until they hit whatever rev range they were designed for. Although modern turbochargers are improved a lot, some still suffer lag when you put your foot down. Not a problem with a supercharger.

The only reason someone would ask "how do i drive a manual 6 speed?" is if you'd NEVER driven a manual. Anyone who had driven a manual 5 speed wouldnt be asking what happens when you get into another manual with an extra gear - simple, when you've finished with 5 or break redline......... shift to 6, revs drop....lol.

So Rui isnt stupid to say that, he's probably just european like myself. Most europeans learn to drive in manuals, which is why this question would NEVER arise.

bobbyjuly 07-04-2006 09:50 PM

when u wanna get a ticket, u use 6th gear! it is good for speeding.
