I believe netherlands has to be less expensive...

Rent is basically the same in most places, its just the way of live in certain spots cost more such as California. So many people in Cali have NO money but they have to make it look like they have tons of money.

The prices in euros here. Euros are about 20% more worth then a dollar at the moment. Other then that the standard appartments/houses aren't cheap depending on what you need really, 700/800 euros (excluding gas/light/water) for a decent one most of the time not decorated. Gas prices run 1 euro and up per liter.

House prices in city centres like Amsterdam are much more. I earn in pounds sterling so when I go to America everything is half price for me plus no VAT. I find America piss cheap. I would say Holland would be more expensive however if you live an work there you will be the same if not better off. Check all the threads with Europeans bitching about the crap value of the dollar.

I used to pay around 2k a month for a small flat on Herengracht, central amsterdam, when my kid was born I moved about 20 miles into a village in the country, 3 bed house with garden was around 1,200.

Every thing you consume will cost you more than the US.. apart from clogs, cheese, and pickled herrings.

I find Amsterdam one of the most expensive cities in Europe
Nice appartment in Amsterdam 3500+ euro, lux appartment 5000+, to buy a house is like 700k+, gas I think is about 1.7 euro per liter, but you dont need a car that much. Parking for a car 400 euro per month, good weed 10 euro per gram nice restaraunt meal 30-50 euro per person... Parking outside cost 4.5 euro per hour lol

Yet very unique place and worth the costs...
