"Summer Slowdown": Fact or fantasy?

Just curious how sales are in general for everyone.

I think price is one factor for some sites.

I also think maybe surfers are craving something different, are they sick of whats on offer to them now ?

I agree. We need more "teen" content. Theres a SERIOUS shortage of vapid looking 20 year old crackheads. I think that needs to be addressed.

We just had near on our best day ever yesterday, 1/480 conversions average across all affilates (first page hits), sales are rocking right now. The logic behind the summer slowdown sounds right, people outside in the sun instead of inside wacking off to porn. The summer slowdown gets blamed for everything though, when its very difficult to pin point when you can see its effects. (if any)

I can tell you that i've personally seen the effects of longweekends in the USA and sales dropping 20+% on those days thanks to the people going away on the long weekends.

:2cents People are outside more often plus "competition"

I think there are two reasons for a "summer-hole":

1) People are outside at the beach having a good time and therefore just aren't online that often and that long. I mean, if the weather's fine, I'd rather be outside.

2) "Competition"

When it's hot outside, it means that hot women (who have been working for their bikini look since last autumn) will be walking around half naked, sucking on ice cream cones. They will put sun lotions and oil all over their bodies etc.

I guess this causes many guys to no longer need that much porn as it's already available in real life.

i thinks its fiction , while it is true that summer might cause a bit of a disruption , but the percentage that it would cause would hardly be noticable

some factors to consider are price, with new sites getting released all the time competition is getting alot more , then there is marketing is the marketing technique getting old , need to branch out find more target groups and advertising avenues

Of course it's not fiction. Anybody who's been in this business 5 years+ with a STEADY flow of traffic will have seen a small slowdown each year simply because people are either out in the nice weather, on holiday or a little skint from having blown it all on the holiday.

However, notice the part where I said 'small' slowdown. It isn't such a big thing and also bear in mind summer hasn't really started until all the kids are out of school as that's when the holidays really start to hit.

But then lots of things during the year can effect sales a little. Anyone with any business sense both knows that and to an extent ignore it. All businesses have peaks and troughs in sales and know to only compare like for like (ie the same period the previos year) to get a true indication of performance.

Based on ten years of observation and "interviews" I think that overall there is a summer slowdown. Though I think some of us don't see it because we are always growing. When there is a business recession it makes it harder to grow but some companies do grow. When there are seasonal effects in any business it is like rowing against the current but with enough determination you can still beat the salmon.

MikeFold published some personal data to this effect about 3 years back. To my recollection, he showed a peak in March and then a return to stronger growth in the second half of the summer.

Every year a few people claim there is no summer slowdown even though everyone knows there is.

Fact.....but the question really is that it happens every summer like clockwork......and why people don?t factor this into their average basic economics...like if you lived in Florida and your average daily electric cost going up during summer due to most people using their air conditioning.

My sales show peaks and troughs but over the course of a month don't seem to show very much variation.
Obviously, people go on holiday and so don't tend to have access to a computer to sign up for porn. On the other hand, seeing all the hot flesh on show, but not necessarily available, might be the best kind of tease to get them to sign up to a porn site when they get back home.

It's a fact...summer slows down...
Not even regulars are doing the same as one month before. June and July are worst month as far as I know. In August things are getting better.

My theory is this:

The BEST months for sales are the ones with major "religious" or "family" Holidays.

I.E. Christmas. Thanksgiving.

I.E. fucking WINTER and FALL.

I suppose I could be wrong, I doubt it though since I'm a fucking genius. LOL

This question can only be asked of programs 1.5 years or older. when you are starting out with a new program the growth curve is much higher. When you get to a certain # you level off and the graph still increases but its more of a incline than a vertical climb. So everyone who's saying its their best month ever, you need to own a program that has reasonable exposure, and has been around for more than 1 year before you can validly comment on summer slowdown.
do i believe in summer slowdown? yes. Is it a major slowdown? no. it's more of just a slow increase in monthly volume as opposed to 15-20k monthly increases.

Of course that's the other explaination some like, especially considering how much difference there is between some programs in the summer. Something has to pay for their holiday some say but surely that's just paranoia?
