THe real issue is that Zango and others have become a large part of the business, I would estimate that probably 40-50% of all sales now are being done through spyware and scumware transactions (either redirects, changing cookies, sponsor codes, or by people "buying keywords" on these systems). I base this on what conversions were compares to what they are, and that good conversions are still had on smaller programs that might not be the target of these keyword theives, which is very revealing.

It is also a case of "windows XP is almost done". With Vista only a few months away, these people need to make their money now, because the next windows is going to take at least a few minutes to hack. I know of at least 10 friends who will be buying vista pretty much day 1 to get away from all the scumware and crap that they can't seem to entirely shake.

The day Vista hits the streets, conversions for normal webmasters will suddenly improve.

It was probably a year ago now that the (major corporate entertainment) company I worked for made a deal with Zango to sponsor our games portal. When I was doing the updates to add it, I noticed the scumware aspect of it and emailed the ad producer to report the results of testing, and make sure he was aware of what kind of thing we were putting on our site. He replied back that he was and Legal'd signed off on everything in the deal, and that I should carry on as planned. That was in email...

In IMs and off the record, however, we discussed the fact that we'd sunk to new lows. Even I, a pornographer, wouldn't subject my adult surfers to that kinda crap; yet my big family-friendly corporate employer was pimping Zango on a games portal, where probably 85% of the millions of hits were coming from KIDS.

We all have the morals we can afford, I guess.

Was it Disney ? they just dropped zango. Man if these Zango people think us porn pushers can scream loud, lol those radical rigth christians scream a lot louder. no, i stopped using zango around the time this thread was made.

when i had zango installed i did NOT notice popunders for ifriends, but instead an adult dating site popunder (i think) for any adult related sites i visited.

since i created this thread i have always wanted to retest zango on another clean machine to see if it indeed relinks or rewrites cookies. i have not gotten around to it though. but i think i just might in a day or two since this issue has hit the limelight around here. i dont tell me i dont need to test -- i like to see with my own eyes, thank you
