Simple things work the best.

I knew that telling surfers about the updates was converting and retaining. What I did not realise was if we step up a notch it would jump like it has.

About 3-4 weeks ago we started to rotate some of the content that had been on the site for over a year. We took them out and put them into the "Updates" program. Holding it back at least a month before re introducing it to the site.

We also started to buy in more content, so long as it was similar to ours. So every day the member got a new video and a 2 new image sets. I'm sure retention worked a bit better.

We then moved up anther step in going to 2 videos and 4 image sets every day, half new half in rotation. Retention definitely upped.

Then inside and outside the tour we told people what they will get in the future next weeks updates and on the tour only what was last weeks updates. This was all completed a week ago, the same day I was telling everyone the World cup was a good thing for sign ups.

Seems it has nothing to do with the WC, it's all about showing the surfer what he's getting and what he's missing.

Conversions on affiliates traffic is up 25%, retention it's tough to tell as it's too early, doubt if it will hurt though. "I'm cancelling my membership because I can't handle all the new porn you keep putting up"

Will move to 3 videos and 3 sets a day soon.

Should take MMO video games and their tactics to your pay sites, It's surprisingly very similiar marketing.... the players quit and whine when they run out of content, when they see it or hear about it, they sign up and moan

interesting...

very interesting...

i can see why that would be the case- updates are likely a huge concern just before surfers join... i'll bet they hold their credit card in their hand quite a bit and think "if I sign up for this, am i just going to get access to a site that is stale and hasn't been updated in six months"...

there are a lot of sites out there like that, and i'll bet many surfers feel burned after having signed up for them...

your new approach really distinguishes your site in that regard...

incidentally, this is something that the folks at AbbyWinters.com do really well... they have a blog as their main page that lists all the updates, a "what's coming up in the next two weeks" list on the left hand side of the blog, and a weekly-updated video "newsletter" on the right hand side of the blog... the surfer is hit with the "you are going to get tons" of updates message three times!!!! (but then their tour sucks, but that's another story)

I think so many surfers have been burned so many times, sites that do not have a months worth of content, they are cautious. when they see what we just update with they are more assured.

We are putting up more content in a month than a lot of sites have in total.

Might try some galleries which link directly to this page.

I have always felt that surfers are stupid... But they can read. So if you show them what they want to know, they will lighten up and 'get it' and stick around for more.

Another thought just came to me, so I'm just thinking aloud here.

Do you think we would be so worried about free porn taking members away from paying if paysites were updating like this?

I think some think they are extremely stupid. But even these people are going to learn eventually to be careful.

Maybe if all sites did it like this we would not fear the Free porn out there.

not at all -

sure, free porn does have its negatives but when a surfer finds the type of content he likes, hes not going to surf around wasting time looking for free shit when he knows he can go to a website and be satisfied in an instant by the shit he likes

instant gratification is one of mans inherent characteristics

when the pussy is good you always go back

I agree with you.

I think there are guys who want instant gratification and it's a sector we fail to recognise.

We blame ourselves for putting up too much free porn and taking away members, however do we blame ourselves for selling a site worth $10 for $30?

I think this has done more to hurt our business than anything else.

You're welcome, will keep it up and change the tour a bit to emphasise the updates. Will also include it on the new banners and FHGs.

For the record we just had our best sign ups weekend by a very long way. Over 20% up, need to look at the traffic and analyse it later.

The interesting thing will be retention, will members stay longer. Will taker a few months to see this.
