Major Cybernet Expo News: PLEASE READ

Cybernet Expo concluded on Sunday, and we are very happy to report that the show was a great success for its attendees.

The seminars were informative and well attended, the ?Corridor Cruisin?? event was very popular as always, and the show?s loyal sponsors treated attendees to a number of fantastic parties and enjoyable events. As expected, Cybernet Expo was a great place for attendees to do business. The outcome of this year?s show is especially satisfying because there were a number of significant and unwelcome hurdles that were thrown at the Cybernet Expo team in the last two months leading up to the show itself. As a number of attendees have commented on the large presence of security at the show this year, we felt that an explanation was appropriate.

Just as it was last year, this year?s Cybernet Expo was held at the Kona Kai resort on Shelter Island in San Diego, California. The 2005 show was held without any noteworthy problems. As a result, the hotel management at that time gladly invited us back again this year, offering the same low room rates for attendees. The 2006 event contract was signed in August 2005, largely because it proved to be a fantastic venue.

Unfortunately, Atlas Hotels purchased the facility and took over its management in Oct 2005. From October 2005 until late March 2006, Fay Sharp, Dave Gould, and Jay Kopita planned Cybernet Expo 2006 under the assurances that it was business as usual. The hotel worked with us and showed every indication of honoring the contract. Atlas Hotels waited until late March of this year, to send a letter claiming to cancel its contract for Cybernet Expo.

Their "cancellation" came much too late for us to turn back. On short notice it was not feasible to find another hotel that would give Cybernet the majority use of its property at a reasonable rate. We were left with no choice but to contact our attorney and initiate legal action.

Atlas Hotels was simply speculating that an adult-related event would by its nature place the hotel?s liquor license in jeopardy. Even though this particular event had never proved problematic for any of its host venues throughout its long history, Atlas nonetheless made a reckless decision that threatened to destroy Cybernet Expo.

There is only so much we can say at this point because the litigation is ongoing. As Atlas Hotels would never back off and honor the contract, we were forced to go through the courts to obtain a preliminary injunction, and continue through both Mediation and Arbitration. We were very pleased when the Arbitrator found that Atlas Hotels was in breach of contract. From the start, we felt there was simply NO WAY that we could allow the show to be cancelled. We believe the hotel saw us as easy targets; but rather than just roll over, we fought them tooth and nail. This battle has been very costly and we are still fighting to enforce our rights.

We can't even begin to express to you how grateful we are to the loyal sponsors and fantastic attendees who supported Cybernet Expo this year. The fact that this event even happened was a victory for Cybernet Expo, but to get the kind of support we got from the show?s participants is what truly makes this fight with Atlas Hotels worthwhile.

Obviously, Cybernet Expo 2007 will not be happening at the Kona Kai resort, nor will it be held in the city of San Diego. We'll be announcing the location of next year's show sometime later this summer.

Thanks again for the overwhelming support and for helping to make this year's show a successful experience for the people who matter most ? our attendees and our sponsors!

Nice response Jay ... you, Fay and Dave worked very hard to bring a good show. While many things were out of your hands from what I have heard, despite all your obstacles, you provided an excellent show.

Much sympathy and thanks for a good show. The SpookyCash crew enjoyed exhibiting and attending. Here is hoping next year is minus the curve balls.

Just another example of the *mainstream man* trying to keep us *porn brothers* down...

i have to say...like many battles we have faced from public prosecution and federal govt ignorance...the Adult Webmasters at this year's show, shined with professionalism and good natured fun...

funny how you can go watch porn in the room there, yet a solid business-minded webmaster had to feel somewhat *watched* as they had their morning bloody mary.

GREAT JOB JAY!! GREAT JOB FAY!! GREAT JOB DAVE!

Thanks for the update and working so hard for putting this show together. It happens sometimes that certain businesses don't want to work w/ the adult industry. I look forward to a new location for next year's show.

Thanks for clearing this up Jay - there was some "rumors" floating around.

People seem to think our industry is "not respectable" and that we are all "swingers" - and as such, easy marks. What people outside of our industry understand is that we are very serious, we are professional, and when large amounts of money are at stake we do have attornies and surprise - we do have legal rights.

It is very clear that CybernetExpo will continue its precedence of providing an excellent venue for us to network, conduct business, and party as we know how.. I am very confident the next location will top all others, and look forward to being a sponsor at many more CYBERNETEXPOS to come..

Thank you Jay, Fay and Dave for pulling off the impossible this time around!!!

Fun!!

In spite of the hassles Fay/Jay/Dave had to fight, the Show was fantastic; I had fun, and I think others did, too! The seminars were absolutely enlightening and educational. AND, the attendees were true professionals and All-Americans. I'm proud to have been allowed to hang around with ya's.

Thanks,

Dave Cummings

Thanks LAJ, Dave and Fay for kickin the shit out of Kona Kai - and if you need assistance I'm sure everyone who attended had reserved plans to do some events that needed to be canceled or reschedule. ie: basketball, poker, players ball ...etc...

We normally move the show around to spots that attendees might enjoy going. In Cybernet's 9 years, we have been: New Jersey, Miami, Montreal, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and San Diego.

We only stayed the additional year at San Diego, because we were offered all the rooms and complete cooperation. We cannot return to San Diego because we are 'now on the Radar. There are certain parties who made sure that Vice Cops and the Alcoholic Beverage Commission knew we were in town. This type of harrassment was why DMoneys party had to be changed.

No more San Diego..................

A great job pulling of the impossible with nothing.

I was one of the whingers and whiners when I first arrived until the entire situation was explained, upon which I became a major supporter.

Great work under almost impossible conditions.

We should all charge back our rooms and bar charges :-)

Seriously though, it turned out to be an excellent show and we had a fun and productive time. Corridor Cruising was a big hit. With all of the troubles that you had pulling this off, it was refreshing to see that you stuck by your guns and never gave up.

Kudos to Jay, Faye, and Dave for a job well done!

Despite the large security presence, the show was a great success. In fact, I had nothing but pleasant exchanges with the security; they were all very friendly and professional to me. Some of them were having a great time in the Corridor Cruisin :-)

Kudos to Fay, Dave, and Jay for putting on another great show. I can't believe I missed it last year, and will be sure not to miss the future shows.

The seminars were filled and the audience had some really good questions for the speakers. I give this event two thumbs up

Like everyone else, we thought it was a tremendous show. You..end everyone in attendance pulled it off with class in spite of the hotel. I'll put my vote in for either San Fran or Tampa

Thanks for clearing up the rumors with this post.

This was my first Cybernet and I was very happy with the business I was able to do - and have fun.

Thanks for putting/keeping the show together and thanks to the sponsors.

San Diego's loss!

Here is a question why aren't more "shows" done at all inclusive resorts? where you could potentially almost book the whole place?

Jay ...Faye Dave and the YNOT group, congrats for the fight and the effort to pull off a Cyber Net at the Kona Kai....I was one of the first to get the news early on that the show was canceled. I called to make the plans for the White Trash party no.2...i was told on the phone that the "show had been cancelled" Not good...

But even with all that you guys still put together a great show, great job!

YNOT and Cyber Net has ALWAYS been very good to Smashbucks, and we will never ever forget that. We are looking ahead now to YP Mexico and the Lobster Dinner...........

I know there are some hotels that would LOVE to have CYBERNET there spending money, lets find them and have a great next year Cybernet.

i don't wanna start a debate on that - but i don't think there's a major city in germany that would have a problem to host a porn convention. it just striked me a little odd that it was said that the show won't be in san diego anymore because of the general problems involved with that.

and yes, of course we do have laws. but some are less strict then yours. legal drinking age for beer is 16 over here, 18 for hard liquor. and there's no "alcohol beverage commission" either.

it's good and bad everywhere - it just touches my nerves sometimes when people tend to speak about "shitty" europe and "great" USA.

sorry for the interruption - carry on with the thread...

Most of San Diego is pretty "red state" Republican.. strip clubs suck here, ABC is pretty strict, etc..

The hotel was probably looking for more respectable bookings ... like the US Air Force .......

Thanks to the Cybernet Expo crew....

It is unfortunate that certain close minded businesses are so scared of what they don't know or understand. I am sure that there have been other convention, and companies that have resided at that property who have not conducted themselves with the professionalism that we did this time and in the past. We have to expect that the stereotype comes with the industry, for the time being.

I just want to say thank you to Jay for working so diligently behind the scenes, and before the event as well to make sure that we were able to still have an event.

Once again I want to thank Cole Montana and Honey Lyn for all of their hard work at the alst minute to ressurect the Saturday night venue, and all of the sponsors that pitched in to make sure that all of the webmasters had transportation and a place to gather.

Thanks again,
