question for SEO gurus and aficionados :)

I got a new plan with a server (bluehost.com) that instead of allowing me to add my domains to the plan, makes me create "domainname.mymaindomainintheplan.com" which in turn redirects to domainname.com

For instance. My main domain is mary.com, so to add joana.com I would have to create joana.mary.com. Now, when you go to joana.com it shows the content that is there, so that is no problem. My question is: since the original request sent by the surfer's browser gets a subdomain as an answer that redirects to the requested domain (the transition is seamless), will the search engines list these sites? will they consider them as domains or as subdomains? Please enlighten me! Thanx |

I think that's a stupid ass hosting plan.

If you're paying for hosting you should get your domains set up any damn way you want. |

yes, I am. $6.95 a month for 400 gigs and 150 gigs of storage. I tried to find a cheap plan here on GFY with similar characteristics, but couldn't. So I went online and read about this company and every one says that they kick butt, and are considered some of the best. But now I'm concerned about my sites not being properly accepted by the SE's

I know, BadDog. I have heard rave comments about your service and I think you deserve every single good opinion, but I need a lot of bandwith for a very little price...

I think you are really over-estimating the amount of bandwidth you need for two blogs. I mentioned before, I have clients with 1,000's of blogs on their servers that don't even use 200 gig. |

baddog, I know you run a hosting company specializing in SEO needs (multiple IPs over multiple Class C's). Honestly though, do you really believe that there are heavy penalties still for sharing IPs?

like others have said, get a real host... it's only $6.95 you get what you pay for, your site will probably be down half the time, and there will be zero tech support...

That's the stupidest thing i've ever seen. It's fine if you ONLY plan on getting traffic from business cards, flyers, tv ads etc. but subdomains are actually regarded as seperate websites in the engines.

Define "heavy." Here are a couple of facts provided by .Google : * Near-Duplicate Content Filter = If multiple search results contain identical titles and snippets, then only one of the documents is returned. * Host Crowding = If multiple results come from the same Web host, then only the first two are returned They said it, I believe it. |

That sounds like cPanel, please note that they create a subdomain

because they have to track what account the new domain is setup on otherwise there would be no way for the software/system or employees to find out who that domain belongs to in the system, which is why the subdomain gets created.. It does not do any redirection, and you do not have to use the subdomain whatsoever. Tip for creating sites set the folder name as the domain you are adding |

How much traffic do you get? Is your blog text, or one of those fake TGP blogs? It sounds like the latter. |
