The only part that looked tough to fix was around the back window ... lots of rust. it looks 100% original ..even the tires. the interior wasn't that bad but would have to be torn out because it was just dried out. I'm kicking myself for not asking about it. it's only 2 1/2 hours away ..maybe I'll take a road trip.

I saw tons of old cars up there just sitting in yards .. it was sad

It's always very sad to see a piece of history fade away like that.
Imagine what a great car someone could get out of it if they put some love and work into it.

Being a Caddy Daddy since I was 16, that is just such a bad ass car. Pick up one of those hemmings (sp?) mags and see what those caddi's are going for.

And hell yeah, that bitch would make a bad ass low rider. I had an 83 couple, and I had a fucking blast with hydros on it.

Unless your Chip Foose that one is not worth touching. I saw one for 5K that was in good shape. So no need dumping 10K to just get that thing road worthy in primer. Dents are fixable ,rust has to be replaced

Sadly, a lot of old classic cars meet the same fate.

http://www.carsinbarns.com/

This site is dedicated to all those cars we find along the roads, behind barns, in barns or wherever their owners left them. We have all been there "is it for sale?" "No, I'm going to fix it up someday." and sometimes this is true, however unfortunately for the cars it usually is not.

my dad had a 64 black coupe covert when we were kids

One time around 8 years old I put an umbrella throught the roof when I was getting in the back seat.

It was the only time my dad ever hit me

I actually have a website built around the classics that I see as I drive around my area ...... tons of farms around here with classics parked in the front or backyard.

Here are a few seen locally, the last one at a dealership. These are all rotting and needing serious help.

It's all original (paint even) with like 80k on it. Its in pretty decent shape but for the weathering and normal shit that happens when a car sits. We keep it insured and tagged and all that. I dont have pics but I can take some. I'll hit you back when I get sum and think of it

I went camping this weekend also near Canton Georgia and there was this old mobile home with a shed out back. It was full of old cadillac's and old Mercedes. The cadillacs looked early fifties.

I've been thinking about buying it but i know i wouldn't have the time right now to be involved in the rebuild and that's half the fun. The one Red sent me for $5k looks much nicer ..not much body work at all .. I'll get to building one sooner or later

My '70 Dart languishes unrestored for the same reason

Still, if you find a car you like, buy it, store it, and do what you can, when you can -- it's the process that's worthwhile

that's true ..even if it takes 10 years .. it's the reward at the end ...plus my son will have a kick ass car ...

I saw a bunch of great cars while up there ..maybe I'll head back up in a few weeks ... that caddi has been there for the past 3 years ... a few more weeks won't hurt

You can always find some local gearhead who loves older cars to do some of the work for a great price. I found someone willing to replace floor pans (I didn't need it though) from start to finish for about half the price my body shop would have charged.

Store it uncovered (so moisture isn't trapped under the cover) and some day you'll have a great project to work on and you'll be glad you did.

When I see something abandoned I now ring the bell and ask if they want to sell it. Can't hurt to ask. If they say no, I leave my number and tell them to call me if they ever change their mind.

It breaks my heart to see some of these classics just sitting and rotting
