"Stolen veterans data file worth no less than 260 million dollars"

Jesus!

What a fiasco.

Identity theft specialists just estimated each persons info at a minimum of 10 dollars per person. 26.5 million personal information entities. 260 million dollars on the black market. They said thats the lowball number.

That's an over-estimation.

What's worse is if terrorists wanted to methodically send a "message" to the US by attacking vets @ home it can be done with that list.

Forget the identity theft and the fraud etc. - this is a safety concern.

I've trolled those sites/channels out of curiousity. Scary situation though, it's incredibly easy to obtain that information.

Ok well, after reading it, that kinda pisses me off. But at least (good for some) it was only the personal info.

Stolen SS numbers are a pretty big deal.

You're right, but some things are a lot more important than that (for example, classified service records). I would be a lot more concerned if other data had been compromised.

The fucked part is it might be a couple years from now and someone on that list could get hit from it. The bad guys don't just go out and charge right away or all at once. That's a trove that they'll be able to mine for a decade and beyond.
