so what does it mean to you, to have happy employees? pay them good, treat them as equals, one of the team etc etc.

as an employer or contractor of 15 or so people.. from my experience it pays to treat your people well and pay them good and teach them the business. wether or not they absorb the information is up to them...

I am a firm believer in giving everyone a chance to prove themselves and giving them enough rope to either hang themselves or build a ladder with it.

I have tattoos and shit all over my body.. and I probably make more than 85% of the avg person yet if you never knew me or who i was or what I did, i get treated like shit or not taken seriously.

how does one handle that? I move on to the next person I want to deal with until I am treated with respect and fairly.

    for example.

I was shopping the other day for a truck. I went to 10 dealerships and was very upfront about my goal to purchase exactly what I wanted. 2 of the 10 took care of me. that was before i stated my income and told them my down payment.

what does that mean to me? It means they will get my business again and again and referals.

Next time you judge someone by what they look like or whatever the case may be.. think twice before making assumptions. it could bite you in the ass big time.

dunno why i posted this.. was just thinking about shit and how I am structuring my life to set myself up for a very comfortable lifestyle and my children.

dont ever settle for anything unless its what you really want and are happy with the end result. sand up for yourself and what you know is right.

People get away with far to much shit these days because noone has the balls to stand up for themselves and whats right.

    love,
    Trey

Without spilling too many beans, let me be the first to reply...

As a contracted individual for a certain company, it literally means the World to me to be heard, and taken care of financially as well as provided the tools and resources to accomplish the common goals of that company.

Lately I have been in a position to handle a LARGE amount of data and processing of data to get certain companies to a point of true excellence, and were it not for the caring individuals at the top and there complete and thourough knowledge of my needs, we never would have accomplished what we have in such a short amount of time.

I can tell you that I have worked in tv news for the last five years and that is one of the most under appreciated fields in the video industry. You are constantly pushing deadlines with breaking news and reporter stories and every other thing you have to deal with to get your job done. But, when you are also being paid considerably lower than other places in the market and doing more on air news than them on top of it, it really gets you burnt out.

If at any time the company had come forward and tried to work with us and tried to pay us more and help make our jobs easier I might still be there. But after taking it for so long I finally had enough and decided to do my own thing. Right now I am really struggling but I know it will pay off, because I am trying to do something that is my own and I would rather try that and fail than stay somewhere that makes me miserable and unhappy.

If I ever get to the point where I have people working for me I will definitely make it a fun and inclusive place to work. I think that only helps to build productivity and a love for someone's job. Great post Trey...

Those are two different points you make PD.

It is very important for me to have happy productive employees. I am still surprised by the amount of employees that I come across that bash their present employer and recommend another companies services. I believe in letting your employees grow to their fullest potential. You always hope that you can provide enough room for them to grow within your company, although it is sometime not the case. I like your statement about giving them enough rope to hang themselves or build a ladder. It's too often that employers get jealous when their employees are excelling and try to 'put them in their place.' This creates many bad scenarios. This is often the case in small companies with managers/owners without management common sense.

The other issue you brought up is the perception of your look by others. I have had a few occasions where car dealers, jewerly stores, etc have looked at me like I wasn't a buyer, until they run my credit report. Once they receive it back, I get the "Mr. Ghost, what would you like" asskissing. It never fails.

haha, i was shopping ofr a watch a few months back.. i looked like shit.. drressed in a tshirt and shorts and sandals...didnt plan on shopping that day for a watch.

i walk intot his nice jewlery store.. noone helped me. i asked for assistance and started checking out shit.

finally got to the rolexes.. and the bitch kept trying to steer me away to the citezens or the tags.. i insisted i wanted to see this particular rolex and she gave me some shitty look. i put it on told her i would take it and gave her my card. should ahve seen her face.

was mostly to show her what an idiot she was and the comission she would have lost.

thank god i liked the watch.. or that would have been an expensive lesson on my part

I do agree in giving everyone a fair shake and letting them prove themselves. I also believe in honesty and treating employees more than fair.

On the flip side, sales poeple are out to make money and they deal with poeple of all types and in this world. People covered in tats and piercings are usually associated as being "trashy" and 90% of the time, it is a correct stereotype. Like it or not, that's just the way it is.

The richest guys i ever met looked/dressed like hoodlums & rednecks.

People pretty much laughed at them till they pulled out their wad.

wanna not conform than the bullshit that happens is just the way it is. People judge on looks, they shouldnt but they do. If you treat employees the way you would like to be treated you cant go wrong but remember they are your employees not your friends. When my father was young in his banking career he had a boss tell him, " Joey if everyone likes you then your not a good boss".

as an employer or contractor of 15 or so people.. from my experience it pays to treat your people well and pay them good and teach them the business. wether or not they absorb the information is up to them...

People get away with far to much shit these days because noone has the balls to stand up for themselves and whats right.

                                              love,
                                              Trey

making more then 85% of the average person would put you at about 100K a year range. If you make what you say you make you would make more then 99% of the average person.

To address your questions, I believe what matters the most is the attitude of the people they work for. If they work for the asshole type who is never appreciative, always asking for more, belittles them, makes them feel like shit, etc... i doubt they will be productive or last long at that job long. If given the oppertunity to work for a really nice guy but make a little less or work for asshole and make a little more, i think 9 out of 10 people will work for nice guy and make a little less. If you are a good guy to work for and you pay them well you can't go wrong. I also never use the phrase " you work for me" to them, i refer to it as " you work with me". It's all about the right attitude. Give them a little more upfront, give them a chance to excel and treat them right and you will get 10x more productivity out of them and a loyal worker for life, well at least most of them, you still have to weed through the dead beats.

Second part. The not being taken seriously think bothered me when i first started makig money. After that i liked it. When someone is quick to judge me, like in your situation with the watch i would have bought it, asked for a manager and given the commission to one of the other sales agents or not purchased it. I prefer being low key, i like it when they dont see me coming. I want to know who you really are, if they knew you were a high roller walking in you would never know if they were sincere or not. I also prefer not to have people asking me to borrow money all the time, appearance is everything, sometimes it is good to appear to be poor.

Reminds me of a few months back when I went to my bank towards closing time to open a new account. The lady whose desk they sat me at was on the phone, and it was pretty obvious that she was irritated that I had been seated at her desk so late in the day.

When she saw what I was depositing let's just say that her attitude did a 180, and she ended up apologizing for having the attitude.

Most people think looking nice makes you professional.
I think treating people with respect makes you professional.
Funny thing is that most intelligent people won't care if you don't look professional, but the idiots will. Dressing down is great way to filter out the people you don't want to deal with. On the other hand if I need to deal with someone regardless if they are an idiot or not, I always dress up.

I consider all of the stuff you mention a HUGE advanage. I'm quite sure I
have more tattoos than you and probably look rougher than you aswell

I just love the fact that people underestimate me by judging me on how I look
it makes it even more easy to "shock and awww" (I love that term). The feeling
you get when people their jaws drop on the floor and they eyes fall out to
the floor and see them realise what complete fools they are/were is an even
better feeling then when people just expect your actions. I guess it's all a
                                                      matter of perspective.

This not only goes while shopping but also in terms of business, skills, etc.
you catch those kinda people with their pants down and walk over them before
they even realise what happened to them.

Judge a book by its cover, and you lose out on some good reading. That was my tagline for years on all my online accounts.

I know this senario very well having long hair since i was in 6th grade, and riding harleys since 16, you get sterotyped quickly. If you dont look or act yuppie they always think your broke. The problem is most of those people who wear prada or flashy clothes are up to their eyeballs in debt and living paycheck to paycheck.

OMG, someone hacked into pimpdogg's account!

2 topics I'm sure we can all relate to at some point in our lives. I have had many jobs where I was just "a body".. Generally in those type jobs when it came time for promotions managers would instead hire a friend for the position above you.

Being the hansome fella I am I can't relate to being judged against my looks

Unless I am going somewhere important I dress for comfort. That generally includes jeans, oversized jerseys/t-shirts and comfortable casual shoes. It amazes me how quick that is a recipe for being ignored by retail clerks. I can go into stores and watch the clerks run up to everyone around me, passing me in the process asking them if they can be of assistance. What's funny is how those same clerks are much nicer to you after they realize their associate that did assist you just made a bigger commission than they did.
                                                            .

I gotta say that I was hardly a noob when I started working for you, but even so, it's been an education. I've already learned tons. Thats a HUGE benefit to "selling out" (as Alien says) to a big company. The experience of the people you work with comes in handy and should be drank like water on a hot day.

I'm also pretty happy. The money is GOOD and keeps getting better and I don't have people breathing down my neck.
