DRAMA: How moviepass.tv/webmastersdirect works and why they are fucking scumbags

From their site:

http://www.moviepass.tv/terms.html
Quote:
ONCE THE SOFTWARE IS INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER IT WILL CREATE AUTO START FEATURES WITHIN YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM THAT WILL RUN PROCESSES ON YOUR SYSTEM. THESE PROCESSES AND ALL COMPONENTS OF THE SOFTWARE CAN BE COMPLETELY REMOVED SHOULD YOU ELECT TO CANCEL YOUR TRIAL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TRIAL PERIOD. IF YOU DO NOT CANCEL WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TRIAL PERIOD OUR SOFTWARE LICENSE MANAGEMENT UTILITY WILL STAY ON YOUR COMPUTER AND WILL CONTINUE TO LAUNCH ON START UP OF YOUR COMPUTER UNTIL YOU SATISFY THE OBLIGATIONS YOU AGREED TO WHEN YOU INSTALLED OUR SOFTWARE.
In other words, if the user installs the software and doesn't delete within 3 days, they demand ransom to get rid of the spyware.

Ofcourse, the user has to click for the terms (rather than just see the "I am over 18 years old and agree to the terms" and click "execute" - which everyone does), and then has to read a HUGE fucking contract containing this significant bit.

If you use this, you are scum.

Not to mention that the vague "THAT WILL RUN PROCESSES ON YOUR SYSTEM." means they can run anything they want including use the surfers computer to send out spam emails.

What a bunch of BS - that's asking for loads of trouble there.

After working 12 years online in this industry - I thought I had seen it all, guess not.

This is the kind of shit that gives our industry a bad name and makes people afraid to click "free trial".

Ransomware: Trojans Demand Money From Victims
http://antivirus.about.com/od/virusd...ransomware.htm

...at least one commercial company employs tactics that some perceive as reminiscent of ransomware. Victims complain that MoviePass.tv (also known as MovieLand.com and MediaPipe) installs itself without their knowledge and displays intrusive pop-ups demanding a $99 licensing fee.

According to those who have encountered MoviePass.tv on their systems, there is no single uninstall entry in Add/Remove Programs and the terms of the licensing agreement expressly prohibits uninstalling the software.

Punkworld,

We have worked with most of those companies that you mentioned there. I like them all and have a good biz relationship with them. I'm not going to talk shit about them either. This is the first I have ever heard about this new program but fuck that - I'd rather get spam anyday then spyware / ransom ware, whatever it is on my systems.

Moviepass.tv could easily go as spyware/ransom ware ......

Doesn't stop people from breaking the law all the time given the US is the biggest source of spam emails.

That fat site yours? is it new and are you getting any fhgs etc. soon? Also.. how often do you review submitted blogs to your directory? I know someone that submitted one awhile ago and never got a response or anything.

I know of at least one major (popular) sponsor who promotes MoviePass.tv in their exit consoles.

From learning more about MoviePass.tv I'm a bit surprised that they would be routing traffic to them.

A little money today, or a little money 10 times over if the surfer sticks around and buys more.

Ideas like this are just schoolyard bully bullshit, turn people upside down and shake them for the change in their pockets today, instead of actually selling them something they want and getting income, recurring, and potentially other sales.

Short site small minded small businessmen.

I was considering using their program and tried installing the software on an older computer just to see what it did ... as promised, after three days you get an obnoxious popup all the time that plays music and shit and is a bit difficult to close down, let alone uninstall.

Needless to say I never sent them a single hit, and have actually given up on finding a legit "per install" sponsor.
