Smokey, I've successfully uninstalled the movie downloader from my system, run through system processes and registry entries, there is nothing there...

I tested this on xp pro machine, and two xp home machines...

I went to my add/remove programs to uninstall, and that was that....

Talk to the source, don't drag us into your crusade when all we have is a trafic relationship with them. If shit changes and they start doing malicious stuff, Yeah I'll be pissed, but from what I can tell they have a legit opperation going that has not set off bells and whistles with me.

There will always be people who complain and who make reports, we get chargebacks and all that shit every day, people saying we rip them off because they don't realize the $1.00 one day trial was for only one day... that is clearly labeled on the site..

I have much better shit to do than to sit around and debate this with you Franck. You got your stir of drama today, I'm sure your sig sponsor is thrilled with the clicks your generating..

I have no clue what you do in this industry honestly, as far as I know you're a surfer who lucked out and got some $$$ from starting a ton of shit.. but what do I know what you do??? It's just my opinion, and I am entitled to it...

Are you fucking insane?!

This is ransomware. It doesn't allow people to uninstall the fucking software unless they pay money. It is even worse than spyware, this literally is extortion.

Oh, as for the "traffic relationship only", I guess we should be expecting you guys to starts sending money to legal underage nude art sites soon then? After all, it's "not your responsibility".

Read it.

If people keep the software on their system longer than the "trial", they are unable to uninstall it unless they pay money. The moviepass.tv terms say so themselves, as well as thousands of people victimized by this.

How is this any different than a toolbar install?? You're helping them setup a network of computers on which they can run anything they want at anytime. 6 months from now they can start sending out spam etc. They won't care if you drop them as a sponsor at that poiint becasue of all the money they'll be making doing spam.. And you'll have helped them to do it.

Has there ever been anyone in this industry that's done this sort of thing that hasn't ended up being a spammer/scammer etc.?

Both are clearly unethical practices with a very shaky legal basis, but a legal basis nonetheless. If you support something that is basically extortion, why not other unethical practices?

im not sure if you read the disclaimer, you can uninstall the program just fine "while your in trial" once the trial is over you cant uninstall it..

Im not telling you how to run your shit , just telling you how i feel about this stuff.

Heres what a proper response to this thread should be ( in my opinion )

We at _____ are very concerned about these allegations. Let us assure you we do not condone spyware/malware or any unethical busniess practises. We test ALL productsd on our own machines and keep an open diologue with our trade partners. While we stringly disagree with the conclusion posed in this thread. if we are made aware of a problem we will take care of it, and if we find occurances as mentioned in this thread we will take action and cease our relationship with them.

man I should hire you to write PR for me....

Check it Smokey and Franck, I am concerned when people are getting fucked, I would never link to it without trying it MYSELF first... I let the trial phase lapse I got a video saying I needed to pay now, closed that out, went into my control panel, uninstalled, restarted, ran updated microsoft anti spyware, then ran updated spybot search and destroy, nothing was found, and I was never messed with again... never prompted again for any renewals, did this on three machines on multiple IPs..

If I had something happen other than being able to uninstall, damn right I'd be pissed, I'd have some words on this matter too, but nothing came of the install so as far as I could tell it was ok...

I won't step on your values... because you have the right to them, I have no desire to fuck people... So I do have the similar if not the same values, but I did find nothing wrong with the install...

Media, ok... great you installed it yourself.

But please take a look at the Washingtonpost article now... if it's been in there, as well as thousands of other complaints, that mean maybe they spoofed your IP so you download a spyware free version or some shit like that.

Just saying... it's not isolated cases, it's a lot of people who have been infected.

DD... I ran it from three machines.. on multiple IPs... I don't think they know my home IP when all of my business is done on my work machine... i find it hilarious that programs and webmasters actively promote this shit when it fucks the consumer, makes them distrust the internet and also steals program and affiliate $$$.

you should have been a jew in nazi germany so you could sell uncle abe to the lampshade factory. "itz just bizness. we tested the lampshades, and they work fine."

Agent 488 05-17-2006 08:21 PM

don't you think think the fact you have to uninstall something because they clicked on an exit is a warning sign that something is fucked up?

why would a consumer trust you when you click on an exit and they are ridded with malware?

not everone is a computer geek who knows how to uninstall this garbage. but they still have $$$.

which they will spend on other less annoying avenues like dvds, movies, cable whatever.

Out of a couple millions spam emails sent, there is almost no complaints.

So if it really was that easy to remove, there wouldn't be complaints.

There just gotta be a trick somewhere, the numbers (of complaints) don't add up to make this thing legetimate. The TOS dosen't either and the WS post article don't really mention anything else BUT... there are pretty good chances they got a lot of complaints about this one in particular to put the name out there...

I don't have to judge your affiliate program since I don't promote it, but if there are that many users that are unhappy, there gotta be a problem somewhere in the equation.

Ransomware: Trojans Demand Money From Victims

http://antivirus.about.com/od/virusd...ransomware.htm

Commercial tactics
Unfortunately, at least one commercial company employs tactics that some perceive as reminiscent of ransomware. Victims complain that MoviePass.tv (also known as MovieLand.com and MediaPipe) installs itself without their knowledge and displays intrusive pop-ups demanding a $99 licensing fee.

According to those who have encountered MoviePass.tv on their systems, there is no single uninstall entry in Add/Remove Programs and the terms of the licensing agreement expressly prohibits uninstalling the software. Instead, posters to various self-help forums across the Internet maintain that victims must follow a specific set of MoviePass.tv removal instructions in order to fully remove the program and stop the incessant pop-ups.

What do our sites have to do with the problem.. People are getting the credit for their sales, about 80% of the large programs out there have this on their sites right now, get back to the source of the problem... Test the shit yourself if you're so concerned just like I did, and smokey is about to do...

Leave this shit on your own personal system past the trial period and then report back here how easy it is to un install. What you are doing is wrong.

You know it's a funny day in this industry when most TGP webmasters have better ethics than the pay site operators.

The moviepass guys stated publicly that they promoted them and I went and checked and yes, they popup moviepass in their exits.. that's what the confirmed was for. i.e. confirmed that they promote the site. Since you know SPACash, you should contact them about this issue. I was just compiling a list and confirming what had been stated. I assume that these companies use things like hahahahahahahahahahahaha to see when their sites are discussed.. maybe a bad assumption.

When you guys push programs like that, you are putting yourselves in the 'bad neighborhood' area. I do my best to keep my links out of those areas.
I don't think you will like how the test turns out, THAT many users across the net having problems is pretty bad sign.

Did you notice on their 'download page' that whatever you click, even if just highlighting regular text, the download starts? Just another mark in my book.

So a user gets the video. What's his response? Oh, no problem, I'll just close this out, open up the control panel...... they're not all that technically savvy. I think many would have a bitch fit first and then a lucky few will figure out how to rid themselves of the crap in less than an hour. The reest are off to google or looking for help from somewhere. Not the way to treat surfers IMO.

Technically I'm no match for the rest of you in the thread so call me names or what ever and carry on with your argument.

I care what happens to a surfer after he hits my site. I DON'T have the opinion that if I pass him off to a sponsor on an exit or click, "oh not my problem anymore". It reflects directly on my sites.
