MaTTy (1:57 PM) :
Can you help me out?
Keyser Soze (2:05 PM) :
I will forward it to the people handling fraud complaints.
The policy is that ePassporte will not get involved with disputes between two card holders. They have to solve it up between themselves. A p2p transaction is like a CASH transaction. "Buyer/Seller be aware".
MaTTy (2:44 PM) :
alright thank you
MaTTy (3:56 PM) :
You cant seize his acct and transfer me back my $?
Keyser Soze (3:56 PM) :
Sorry no.
MaTTy (3:56 PM) :
Lame... Can you give me his information?
Keyser Soze (3:57 PM) :
Sorry no we only give out that information if we are ordered by the courts.
MaTTy (3:57 PM) :
Sweet
MaTTy (3:58 PM) :
so basically, any criminal can use your system to facilitate illegal activities and get away with it?
Keyser Soze (4:00 PM) :
Its not our fault you got scammed. We have registered your complaint and if an account gets enough complaints its terminated.
We don't give out information about our account holders, how would you feel if someone requested your information and we gave it to them?
MaTTy (4:05 PM) :
For starters, I understand your legal position, and i realize that you cannot simply give out information about your account owners, and i realize that it is my fault that I got scammed. BUT I find it incredibly disheartening that it takes multiple people being scammed, through your system, before you take action. It almost appears that epassporte harbors criminal activities, one complaint should be enough to have an account frozen, even temporarily while you investigate. I also find it disheartening that you could care less about the customers that use your system legally, and dont make any effort to fix the fraud.
Keyser Soze (4:09 PM) :
I understand you but imagine this.
You piss someone off on the boards, they send you $20 then complaints about your account saying you cheated them, we close your account.
You can't prove you didn't get the money from him or the money was for something else, that is the problem. There is no solid proof thats why we can't block/suspend accounts. The number of complaints an account can get before its suspended is more than 1 but not much more.
Keyser Soze (4:09 PM) :
Last part is about this issue.
MaTTy (4:10 PM) :
Proof? I can give you login information to my paypal account, i can also forward you the chat transcripts between myself and the criminal... That should be enough to at LEAST suspend his account.
Keyser Soze (4:11 PM) :
Yeah but the transcript can be edited and the money you send him could be for something else.
I understand where you are coming from but there is nothing we can do.
MaTTy (4:11 PM) :
alllllright

Nice.

I see their point, but you'd think there'd be some middle ground.

Basically just makes me not want to use Epassporte. Paypal has extensive fraud protections and WILL freeze accounts. Too bad their service is so limited outside the US.

Rediculous? maybe... $70 could have been $7000

Some webmasters here were under the impression that action can be taken by epassporte to rectify the situation.

The conversation was not supposed to be anti-epassporte, rather, information for webmasters who thought that action could be taken in response to money transfers... If this is at all libel or in any way offensive to epassporte, MOD:DELETE the post i made with the convo.

I dont think that im harming the image of epassporte at all. In fact im impressed that I was able to speak to someone #1 so quickly and #2 was there to answer my questions.

On another note, i think the issue should be raised about the ability and especially its ease, to rip off webmasters

If you sent him a western union transfer would you expect to get your money back ?
Its not epassporte's fault you got scammed, its only your fault.
Keyser's response its alright, theres nothing anyone can do without solid proof.
Have it this way, do you expect everyone here to believe you just because you say so ?

No i wouldnt, and if you read my post, you would realize that i KNOW that it was my fault i got ripped off.

I agree that Keyser's response is alright

No, i dont expect everyone here to believe me, i merely asked for an investigation into his account.

Again, the post was to provide education to the webmasters who did not know how helpless you can become in this sort of situation.

I have no qualms with epassporte at all, and i would still recommend their use, i totally dont understand how im being so mis-interpreted right now

agreed, it was a great scam.... I wouldnt normally be taken for something like this, i had experience with this guy..

The other day he was going to help me out w/ a $10 transaction, epass to paypal.

I sent the $10, he told me he was having trouble logging into his paypal to send me my money, and immediately refunded the $10 via epassporte.

My experience with him, and his legitimacy in sending back the $$ right away led me to believe i could trust him with $70...
Me = Idiot

The act of being robbed is someone forcing you to give them your money. In this case, the title should read "I gave my money away". Consider this as a $70 lesson and move on.

I understand your frustration about this but as we talked about on ICQ there really isn't anything to do about it.
I despise scammers and thiefs and whenever someone contacts me with issues like this (which happens but its a couple of times a month max) I follow up on it cause its hurting everyone, the person being cheated and ePassporte aswell.
Sadly there are a lot of scammer that would fuck over their grandmother to make an extra buck. Only advice I can give is to be careful who you send money to, ask yourself is this someone you would send cash to or accept a check from.

Keyser, I hope you understand that this was not an epassporte flame thread. "I follow up on it cause its hurting everyone" <--- Thats why i posted it, awareness is the key

At any rate, if you'd like the convo deleted, hit me up on icq and ill tell an admin to erase it.

Sounds like you got conned.
Try to watch and episode of the British TV series "Hustle" and you'll know exactly what kind of con he pulled on you.

Actually, check this out
http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/hustle/con_jargon.shtml

I know it doesn't help you in your current situation.

Why did you post keyser's logs ?

MaTTy (4:05 PM) :
It almost appears that epassporte harbors criminal activities

What you said there sounds pretty anti epass.

They should build in a system like paypal for complaints. As soon as there is one, the money gets frozen for minimum 30 days if there is no resolution.

Live and learn. I just found out today that someone that scammed several people with an epassporte account (and supposedly had it terminated) had their account reopened recently just to scam again.

I still like epassporte overall. It may take them some time to iron out better policies for issues like this.

MaTTy (4:05 PM) :
It almost appears that epassporte harbors criminal activities

That's like saying the principle of holding someone "innocent until proven guilty" is harboring criminals.

It's designed to protect honest people. It's up to us to protect ourselves from scammers.
