think your gas prices are too high?!

you should come to england I filled my car up from about 1/4 full yesterday cost me £40 = $75

its not far off $2 a litre here now for super unleaded (93+ octane)
so to fill the 50 litre tank in my s2000 be just shy of $100

Life in the Land Where Filling Up An SUV Costs $3

CARACAS, VENEZUELA - Auto salesman Leonardo Caicedo looked over the shiny Jeep, Chrysler, and Dodge vehicles crowding the showroom in central Caracas, where a gallon of gasoline now costs about the same as a large hen's egg, and a liter costs less than a single photocopy.

The SUV sales are "excellent," he said, and customers don't worry about fuel efficiency, since they can fill their 18-gallon tanks for less than $3.

"Here, gasoline is cheaper than water," Felix Mancilla, who sells pirated CDs and DVDs, says happily. He uses his generator to run a television and speakers, which customers use to test his products. Running the generator all day long costs him only $2 per week.

Problems with hybrids is that you gotta change the batteries every liek 7 yrs... and they are expensive as hell (can be 7000-10k$). Not worth buying at all even if they were beautiful.

There's a difference. In European countries where the gas prices are high and even in Canada more of that money goes back into their system and they have much better social programs, such as health care. When I was in Switzerland 10 years ago I was shocked at their gas prices, but they don't have to pay for auto insurance, their roads are in much better shape, they have free health coverage, and a better educational system among other things.

The name of the capital is Caracas and the "holes" of the city is not the subject matter of the thread. The price of gas is. The cost of fuel applies to Venezuela, - not just Caracas.

It's obvious you know nothing about Venezuela - but it's GFY. What ya expect?

Yea but how far on average do you drive per week? I bet you anything most Americans have to drive a hell of a lot more than the typical European. So all in all I'm betting the costs average out to being pretty close to the same.

Believe me - if you think Caracas is a shit hole - there is a LOT worse!!!

Venezuela as a country is an amazing place and probably going to end up prime real estate territory when Chavez departs - especially along the coastline.

Na.. don't like city crap and stay out of em as much as possible and live in Costa Rica.

Border crossings are worse Took a bus from Caracas to Catagena and that was an experience in itself. Shit hole after shit hole all protected with 17 different check points....

I'm not a fan of cities either(live in a small town) - never made it to Costa Rica but a mate said it was a beautiful place.

We pay $6-7 a gallon, so if you want to claim you have to drive 2x more than anyone in Europe to get anywhere then be my guest.

I've never taken a bus in Latin America (or dammit - never been on a bus for decades in any country) - can imagine!

Costa Rica is fine.. but it's the same here - the capital city, San Jose is an utter shithole!

But the rest of the country is an amazing place and the people are genuinely friendly - even cops don't have an attitude. CR has amazing wildlife - a couple of weeks back was near the coast checking out land and came across a 9 foot boa crawling under the car (he's harmless). There were about 17 dolphins swimming around a humpback whale in the bay - this was the place Jacque Costeau used to film a lot of his underwater movies.

And the roads are crap... but the girls are kinda nice!

Scooters are taking off here... the freeking things are everywhere.

I imagine more and more people will switch over to two wheeled transport. I fill up my motorbike, give the guy a 20 and get enough change for a beer.
