unless jpfdude magically reappears, or somebody comes up with some sort of solution, I guess I will handle it. (not like I have time, but what the fuck am I gonna do, right?) XFR was the first to step up and offer to host the sites for the competition, and I'm sure they are still willing. So, when the time comes, and as you complete your tours, email them to me in a zip file along with your name so I know who they're from, and I'll set them up on a page with a number next to it and we'll have the vote right here on the good ol' GFY polling system.

I don't need your domain, and don't put the tour on your domain until afterwards.... I don't want a link to it, I want the zipped tour so I can put them all in a neat little row with anonymous numbers so the voting can be as fair as possible.

The only potential problem I see with using the GFY poll system is I don't know how many different options it allows. So we may have to do it in groups, because there's ALOT of contenders now.

Surfers are not looking for cool graphics, they're looking for naked chicks and fuck and suck photos.

Many surfers will hit the BACK button at the first hint of Flash (I'm one). That some Flash is better than others is irrelevant. Many more of our customers hate it than love it.

Even if Flash is done well, it gets tired on revisits to the site. Sure, you can set up a "skip Flash" link, but the fact that you don't have a "skip naked chickies" link but you DO have one for skipping Flash should be a wake-up call.

i usually back out too if i see a flash intro coming. there should never be anything to "skip" - flash intros are a waste of time and money. what gets tiring on re-visits to the site? you seem a little out of your depth here..
i congratulate you on figuring out surfers want porn, not graphics. maybe now you can move on to world peace, or the isreali/palestinian conflict :) - perhaps i'll give you some photography tips if you want some.. and then you can tell me why graphics do make a difference, even if it's not what the surfers are there for... deal?

a flash piece that builds as it loads (which should be as close as we get to the bad old days of flash intros) should detect when someone is coming back and skip straight to the finished version, therefore you never have to sit through it again. and the only reason you had to in the first place was to let it load.. people are used to the way html loads.. piece by piece.. so you have to load the flash in a similar way.. not keep it behind a loading graphic until it's finished.. or it's like having all your html in a table and having to load the contents of the table before it's displayed.

What I mean is is I need a tour for a domain of mine and maybe the last thing you need is another site? Maybe you win the contest or mayber not. If you do not, at least you get somthing for it.

Someone told me about this contest today. Am not sure of the rules but I want to participate, I have a unique tour in mind. I will be designing the tour for a brand new site of mine, so I will be using it commercially. Can I also enter it in the competition? I must warn you guys I'm professional and really good!

THE BEST Professional tours cost upwards of $3000+. Basically Matrix is telling you to create a tour for them and to use their content. You get NOTHING from them and they get your valuable tour FREE (either way, there's no expense to them)

Who else thinks this is an incredible insult to the intelligent webmaster?

Look.... Matrix made a very generous offer, in my opinion. Especially for people that can't afford to go out and buy new content. And that's who it really applies to anyway. They're giving the average schmuck a chance to compete here... the price is laid out up front: Your tour. If you don't agree, then you don't take the deal. Any other content provider would do the same, so why are you bashing Matrix? Don't like the offer? Don't sign the agreement. Buy your fucking content.

First off, I know you're a good guy and wouldn't try to make it appear otherwise - and maybe you're right about Matrix. I've got no beef with them; I am not in competition with them nor am I contestant in this contest (I'm just asserting my opinion is non-biased)

Hear me out: A designer creates a kickass tour and uses the Matrix content to offer quality images to impress the audience. He labours HOURS upon HOURS thinking, designing, planning, and tweaking (and you know what that's like).

At the end of the contest he comes one spot away from winning the prize. Under a normal situation he at least wouldn't walk away empty-handed; he would still have his kickass tour which he could turn a great profit on selling or using it himself. Instead, Matrix keeps the valuable tour, and the webmaster ends up with absolutely nothing.

Now look at it from Matrix's point of view:

They have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Their pics don't get any exposure to surfers, therefore they don't lose any value. Matrix appears to get a better rep by "sponsoring" the contest, but all the really sponsor is themselves because they are the ones who come away the winner in the end and the designer is the loser (lost money from time that goes towards Matrix).

If it was truly a "generous" offer then Matrix would simply say the designer couldn't use the tour without first purchasing license to the sets that he used to create the tour. But instead, Matrix says "fuck that" and chooses to just take the tour. And even if the designer chose NOT to buy the images, then he simple couldn't include them in the tour. In no way should he lose his ownership of HIS tour for NOTHING!

it's because the designer that would otherwise not be able to participate not only gets the chance to win a prize, but also gets exposure for their work...advertising that is quite valuable as well as a gem for their portfolio..

Maybe so - but that's a long term thing. The tour itself is a tangible thing that has real value - and matrix takes that away from the designer without offering them any chance for them to keep it for themselves.

Hell - if anybody wants to design a tour - I'LL BUY the matrix content for them to use, they design the tour. Except what I'll offer that Matrix doesn't is i'll even throw in 100 bucks (still pretty lame, but sure beats Matrix's offer)
