programming languages more or less are all only as good as the programmer.. obviously something compiled is going to be faster then something interpreted but when it comes down to it as far as security and how well something runs thats the programmer and not the program

It ENTIRELY depends on what you or the company you want to work for wants to do.

If you're wondering what to get trained in and you want to work in the Adult Industry, get really good at PHP, mySQL, Javascript, etc.

But if you're looking somewhere else for a job, do some research and figure out what the people in those companies use.

But yeah, mostly everyone in the adult online industry uses php/perl + mysql, unfortunately, so be prepared to use those :/

About 36 years old

C/C++ is perfect for client/server applications. For websites, I tend to prefer PHP5/MySQL.

For drivers, I use Assembly.

Perl is good to do unix scripts.

Also, if you want to do a client application, I suggest you to use the wxWidgets library with C++. It just kicks ass and is portable

Just looked up php as well and in june it will be 11 years since it was first released.. Just because a language is old doesnt make it any less good.

From the php.net site: PHP has been awarded the Programming Language of 2004, according to the TIOBE Programming Community Index. This index uses information collected from the popular search engines, and are based on the world-wide availability of skilled engineers, courses and third party vendors.

Today's language definately is PHP, in terms of how many use it and so on.

The next one is hard to predict, I am a bit scared of it going to be Ruby On Rails, but if that happends, even MORE people than now (because of PHP) that have no clue about programming will pretend they are programmers.

Ruby itself looks very interesting, I'm sure its going to blow up soon.

It just reminds me of Smalltalk, which reminds me off Lisp, which reminds me of crap like

( add ( 4, multiply ( 3, 5 ) ) )

Scary.

Python is amazing, yes.

But it's more for rapid prototyping and used as a "glue" language than anything I'd want for a scalable solution in a production environment.

I was the Vice President of Business Development for the company that released Python 2.0 ... I saw companies like Google, Yahoo, Nasa, and Disney making use of its power. Good times!

asp.net is much more flexible, php was developed for simple things and then added on and added on and added on.

php is good for 95% of what i do, but there is no replacement for asp.net

I like PHP it's easy to use, but it's so easy to writes shite code with it.

I quite like Ruby on Rails as a RAD language, but I think it need a few more versions under it's belt.

It's variable to the application.

I do some things in ASP, some in PHP, some in Perl. Depends on what exactly you are trying to do, and what the familiarity with your programmer and language is
