Whats the programming language of today?

just wondering, i am seeing alot of PHP programmers wanted

BUT

i see tons of sites using ASP

any ideas what lang is better? :helpme
is asp more secure?

PimpDaddyPants 04-28-2006 07:18 PM

Php Get Some

madawgz 04-28-2006 07:21 PM

is it safer? or it all depends on the programmer you have?

divinity 04-28-2006 07:24 PM

php is great..

QualityMpegs 04-28-2006 07:46 PM

php is fun and easy to use

GregA 04-28-2006 07:54 PM

programming languages more or less are all only as good as the programmer.. obviously something compiled is going to be faster then something interpreted but when it comes down to it as far as security and how well something runs thats the programmer and not the program

pornguy 04-28-2006 07:55 PM

PHP is now. If you want a truly powerful one that can do web, and stand along, go with Pearl

GregA 04-28-2006 07:56 PM

perl :P I think python is a underestimated language as well

Choppa 04-28-2006 08:01 PM

Perl scripts are great but as previously mentioned weakest link is the programmer :2 cents:

High Plains Drifter 04-28-2006 08:01 PM

firmware - C, asm
drivers - C, C++
web - php, perl, java
desktop apps - C++, C#
server - C++, java, C#

HorseShit 04-28-2006 08:05 PM

ruby on rails

GregA 04-28-2006 08:05 PM

Practical Extraction and Report Language - PERL
no a in it.

pstation 04-28-2006 08:07 PM

Asp.net!!

RobbieRye 04-28-2006 08:09 PM

It ENTIRELY depends on what you or the company you want to work for wants to do.

If you're wondering what to get trained in and you want to work in the Adult Industry, get really good at PHP, mySQL, Javascript, etc.

But if you're looking somewhere else for a job, do some research and figure out what the people in those companies use.

GregA 04-28-2006 08:12 PM

yea you wont find too many adult hosts running windows so php/mysql is the way to go for that also look into Ajax

pstation 04-28-2006 08:13 PM

But yeah, mostly everyone in the adult online industry uses php/perl + mysql, unfortunately, so be prepared to use those :/

they did perl in 2001 they do it now. almost any sys admin has to do perl scripting, i have used perl for some apps that have come in handy

GregA 04-28-2006 08:17 PM

About 36 years old :thumbsup

C/C++ is perfect for client/server applications. For websites, I tend to prefer PHP5/MySQL.

For drivers, I use Assembly.

Perl is good to do unix scripts.

:thumbsup

Logan Videos 04-28-2006 08:49 PM

Also, if you want to do a client application, I suggest you to use the wxWidgets library with C++. It just kicks ass and is portable :thumbsup

GregA 04-28-2006 09:11 PM

Just looked up php as well and in june it will be 11 years since it was first released.. Just because a language is old doesnt make it any less good.

From the php.net site: PHP has been awarded the Programming Language of 2004, according to the TIOBE Programming Community Index. This index uses information collected from the popular search engines, and are based on the world-wide availability of skilled engineers, courses and third party vendors.

slackologist 04-28-2006 10:02 PM

Asp.net, C#, Ms Sql, Xml

s9ann0 04-29-2006 12:06 AM

ASP is the greatest

s9ann0 04-29-2006 12:08 AM

honest I rename all my .asp files .php to fool people

Nathan 04-29-2006 12:33 AM

Today's language definately is PHP, in terms of how many use it and so on.

The next one is hard to predict, I am a bit scared of it going to be Ruby On Rails, but if that happends, even MORE people than now (because of PHP) that have no clue about programming will pretend they are programmers.

Ruby itself looks very interesting, I'm sure its going to blow up soon.

It just reminds me of Smalltalk, which reminds me off Lisp, which reminds me of crap like

( add ( 4, multiply ( 3, 5 ) ) )

Scary.

Validus 04-29-2006 02:27 AM

the ASP.NET framework rocks! I am all for ASP.NET C#

polish_aristocrat 04-29-2006 02:31 AM

Python is amazing, yes.

But it's more for rapid prototyping and used as a "glue" language than anything I'd want for a scalable solution in a production environment.

I was the Vice President of Business Development for the company that released Python 2.0 ... I saw companies like Google, Yahoo, Nasa, and Disney making use of its power. Good times!

LOL .. that piece of shit? God, I hope not!

3M TA3 04-29-2006 02:33 AM

asp.net is much more flexible, php was developed for simple things and then added on and added on and added on.

php is good for 95% of what i do, but there is no replacement for asp.net

SomeCreep 04-29-2006 02:36 AM

pee eich pee

Mr. Mojo Risin 04-29-2006 02:41 AM

C++ for non web stuff, PHP, Perl, Ruby on Rails for web stuff. Java is nice for both.

CaptainWolfy 04-29-2006 02:43 AM

PHP it's grate!

Manowar 04-29-2006 02:49 AM

php fo rizzle

Apache_A 04-29-2006 02:57 AM

I like PHP it's easy to use, but it's so easy to writes shite code with it.

I quite like Ruby on Rails as a RAD language, but I think it need a few more versions under it's belt.

darksoul 04-29-2006 03:35 AM

nothing beats C

u-Bob 04-29-2006 03:46 AM

D-- maybe? :1orglaugh

munki 04-29-2006 04:20 AM

It's variable to the application.

I do some things in ASP, some in PHP, some in Perl. Depends on what exactly you are trying to do, and what the familiarity with your programmer and language is

Theo 04-29-2006 04:28 AM

It's all about VCDs++, fdEfx, cdcIP and micNT1 these days
