:stop Why do people come and go so fast???

I mean - people hire with a company and 4 months later they leave again. I once worked for a company where people stayed from day one of their career till they retire, some of them were there for 50 years. And in this biz some people don't even manage to stay half a year.

so what's the problem? don't people discuss upfront what their job will be and what is expected from them? or are they surprised when they actually have to work more than 3 hours a day? or their boss demands results instead of blabla? What's the problem???

It's the allure of easy money combined with the lack of work ethic that parent's have neglected to instill in their children the last twenty years.

Either that or they go to work for greedy, egomanialcal, charismatic slave drivers.

Imagine working 50 years to make profit for someone else's pocket.

Undoubtedly there's a myriad of reasons why some people don't remain with a company very long these days. Just because someone leaves a company doesn't make it a negative issue. Company loyalty isn't what it used to be in the past. And vice-versa....not many companies tend to regard good employees as valued assets anymore.

I'm sure alot has to do with companies not having business plans and unable to keep X amount of employees.

Another reason, other than laziness and the hatred of working for the man, is headhunters. When I worked design in Seattle, I think the longest I stayed at company was 1 1/2 years, and it was the last company I worked for before I went on my own. Everytime I worked for someone, another company would contact me and offer me more money, so after about 6 months, I would be gone to the next higher paying gig.

It's called BBD, "Bigger and Better Deal"... LA girls are well known for this ;)

well, not everyone can start his own company. what would companies like GE do otherwise?

but i would hardly consider to employ someone who changed his job 3 times in 12 months. and i would fire someone instantly who is working for me but posts something like "interesting offer" in a thread where another company is looking for someone. this especially amazes me everytime again.

Most companies treat thier employees like a condom: intended to be used for a specified amount of time for a specific purpose and then discarded when broken or purpose has been fulfilled. As such, most employees no longer look at leaving a company as letting down the employer just a matter of moving on.
