Recommend a Computer Builder?

Before you say it: I'm not interested in building my own. My time is valuable to me.

Falcon Northwest just bent me over, and didn't use any lube. A system I bought from them less than a year ago is a doorstop, and they are using a technicality to refuse to service it. Fuck them and the dicks they rode in on.

I just bought a new Mac, but would also like to have a PC until the new Intel Mac desktop machines come out later this year.

Can someone suggest a company they've worked with that will do a good job? I am hesitant to use Alienware, because I fear that the same dogshit technical support that Dell now has will plague the Alienware line after the acquisition.

Edge,
Post if you want me to hook you up with my builder.
I tell him what I want it to do, and he sends me a computer that has a sound card, that works with the Graphics board, that has two gigs of Ram, and three hard drives, and it all works. With all the programs I want.

Does he work for a major company? I don't want to build it myself, or have someone who isn't with a "major" build it.

It's about service, and the warranty. Most of the majors offer overnight service on systems over $10,000.

And what happens when the custom-built memory dies? I should warehouse it here? What about when the liquid-cooling system spurts all over the motherboard, trashing all of my components? Who should I call?

Are you really so poor you can't spend $10,000 as an INVESTMENT in not being down if something goes wrong?

I've built enough systems over the years to know that it pays to go with a major company for a high-end system. Sure, if it's a $3,000 system, built it yourself -- knock yourself out. Be cheap. But for something that you use for your BUSINESS? You're just asking for trouble.

Mmmm ... Hardly an investment. It's a metal box which depreciates at a rate faster than Haliburton signs crooked contracts.

There is also nothing mystical about it - any box fucks up whether it is cheap or expensive and it's quicker to call yourself for support.

10k on a desktop ? fuck me , what the fuck are you building , sure 10l might with a huge ass monitor , but on parts in a desktop your getting ripped off

liquid cooling you only really need if your planning overclocking or if want an ultra quiet pc

and custom memory ? wtf

all hardware parts you buy have warranty just the same as anything else you buy

i've built enough system to know that they hardly ever fuck up

Not when your components take a while to be shipped. Overnight service is the key.

The INVESTMENT is in your uptime, not in the machine.

This one was $12k. The monitors are a 24" and a 30", from Dell.

The memory is for video editing.

The "warranty" you get on parts doesn't including getting a replacement the NEXT DAY or SAME DAY. Correct me if I'm wrong here, and I'll be the first to build a new one.

And I don't have them fuck up often either, but with this doorstop sitting dead, and Falcon Northwest not caring about that ... I can see the value in going with someone more interested in serving their customers.

Yeah, I just bought an Intel Mac myself -- amazing!! I can't wait for the desktops. Load it up with 8GB-16GB of RAM, quad-system, and it's going to SCREAM!

Haven't heard of them. I have used Alienware, Falcon Northwest, and Voodoo. What is Monarch's website? Do you recommend a specific model? How has their service been?

They will build pretty much anything. I built God's computer there about 6 months ago, matched it with two 24" Dell LCDs and loved it.

I only had to use their support once, but it was great and if you buy the extra warranties, they're really worth it.

If you don't have a good support plan -- and your PC is the high-end kind that cannot be serviced with "off the shelf" parts, you're fucked.

Being down for a couple of days costs me more than the cost of the "right" kind of PC, with the "right" kind of support.

If you're only making like $1,000/day, that's one thing. If you're serious about your business, you don't risk it. Did you build your own car?

Yeah, I did a 24" and a 30", because of the video editing. I agree with you on the extra warranties -- glad to see someone doesn't have their head up their ass when it comes to support.

Do you lack computer knowledge? If so, support would be important.

Computer knowledge gets you custom parts overnight?

I think you lack the reading skills necessary to understand that "big" companies warehouse the components I need -- things NewEgg doesn't have.

I wouldn't expect someone of limited technical knowledge to understand, but thanks for visiting!
