I think my lawyer is over billing me, anyone know how much he should have charged me to set up a California S Corp, Out the door.

Do it yourself. Its easy. Look up Secretary of State for Cali and so a search in their site for setting up a company. They tell you step by step how to do it.

I filled my own LLC paperwork for less than $100.

He quoted me $1500, which I thought was high, but that was OK. I got a bill for $1600, which I paid , now he sends me another for $1250. No offense to any lawyers online, but damn now I know why they have such a bad rap.

You're getting taken. Companies are all over the net that setup LLCs, Incs and whatevers for anywhere from $99 to $500 for the deluxe super dupper package depending on state and such.

Why use a lawyer for that anyway? Its kinda like using a lawyer to write a letter to your landlord asking for him to waive a late fee. Its overkill, IMHO.

I paid $750 for mine. I didn't have a problem paying the money since i knew it was from a lawyer that sets them up all the time and does good work.

yeah - that's way high. i talked to my acct and a friend's lawyer about setting one up for me and they were both quoting $1100+. and as others have said you can DIY for $400 or so.

An LLC is for a company that has more than one owner, it can have multiple owners.

I've paid as high as 3k+ for an Inc. in another tax friendly state with 'nominees' etc, bank setup the works, prior to 9/11...

after that, since privacy etc is gone in the US, I go for the easy 300 buck packages out of DE...anything higher than 300-500 is a 'jack worthy' situation...

Are there any benefits to incorporating if all you do is submit galleries and have no liabilities/don't have to worry about anyone taking your assets or being sued. but make ok money (over 100k a year) and have no employees and no ofc (just work from home). ????
