Does anyone know how much a lawyer should charge to set up a California "S" Corp. ?

I think my lawyer is over billing me, anyone know how much he should have charged me to set up a California S Corp, Out the door.

300 bucks

King Adam 04-26-2006 08:57 PM

Do it yourself. Its easy. Look up Secretary of State for Cali and so a search in their site for setting up a company. They tell you step by step how to do it.

I filled my own LLC paperwork for less than $100.

jesse_adultdatingdollars 04-26-2006 08:59 PM

He quoted me $1500, which I thought was high, but that was OK. I got a bill for $1600, which I paid , now he sends me another for $1250. No offense to any lawyers online, but damn now I know why they have such a bad rap.

minusonebit 04-26-2006 09:08 PM

You're getting taken. Companies are all over the net that setup LLCs, Incs and whatevers for anywhere from $99 to $500 for the deluxe super dupper package depending on state and such.

Why use a lawyer for that anyway? Its kinda like using a lawyer to write a letter to your landlord asking for him to waive a late fee. Its overkill, IMHO.

I'll do it for you for 50% less. Shit, I'm in the wrong business. Its like an hours worth of work ... tops.

Shit $1500 an hour sounds pretty damn good.

That is a cool site, wish I would have gone there instead. Thanks for the tip for next time.

Sosa 04-26-2006 09:19 PM

I paid $750 for mine. I didn't have a problem paying the money since i knew it was from a lawyer that sets them up all the time and does good work.

jesse_adultdatingdollars 04-26-2006 09:20 PM

I know he is out of his mind, i am going to make him show me bills of other companys he has set up in the past, see if he has been screwing others or just me.

jesse_adultdatingdollars 04-26-2006 09:21 PM

thats why when he said $1500, I know he is expensive for other stuff he has done for me, but he is " big time lawyer downtown "so I new it was getting done right, but $2800 is crazy

LLC's are much easier to set up then S corps. Not as easy to do by yourself.

jesse_adultdatingdollars 04-26-2006 09:28 PM

What's the difference between a lawyer and a bucket of poop?
The bucket.

jesse_adultdatingdollars 04-26-2006 09:29 PM

An LLC is for a company that has more than one owner, it can have multiple owners.

I've paid as high as 3k+ for an Inc. in another tax friendly state with 'nominees' etc, bank setup the works, prior to 9/11...

after that, since privacy etc is gone in the US, I go for the easy 300 buck packages out of DE...anything higher than 300-500 is a 'jack worthy' situation...

:pimp
