PREDICTION for those who care >> T00L's 10k days is 2 discs, the leak was INTENTIONAL

5 years since the last album and it has 7 full songs on it? No way - also, check this out...

"Import"
$26.49
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

"Regular CD"
$10.98
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

I think they're getting back at the leakers - you buy the regular album and you get certain songs, you get the "import" and you get the FULL album...

My be the first band to innovatively combat leaking by embracing it and incorporating it into a sales strategy...

Time will tell!

BTW - 10,000 Days (the song) is one of the best songs ever made imo.

Quote:
10000 days in the fire is long enough
you're going home

you're the only one who can hold your head up high
shake your fist at the gates sayin'
"i have come home now fetch me the spirit, the son and the father,
tell them their pillar of faith has ascended

"its time now, my time now, give me my, give me my wings!"

Also, this was posted on Tool's website as news some time ago when they were still making the album:

Quote:
"Now where was I?.. Oh yeah, TOOL!.. I'm not going to reveal my source, Mister Patience, but do you want to know the kind of things that have been going on while this record was being recorded? Okay, first there was the decoy record just to confound all those would-be bootleggers out there. This took, oh, about a year, just because the band members wanted it to sound pretty close to the real thing (so as to be believable), along with equally believable art design. When they weren't working on this grand deception, there were other pleasant distractions, such as...And then try to imagine what when on in the studio itself (this time while recording the real CD)."

There have been tons of album releases which strategicly used "intentional leaking" to build hype and better sales. Tool would not be the first.

Who cares? Whatever I've been listening to the last 3 days is awesome, intentional or not.

yeah no shit.

I just wonder, if this theory is real whats the point?

If they didnt leak it record sales would be awesome
Now they leaked lets say half of it. Records sales will be lower because many people either dont care for the full album or dont have money to buy or dont like the first half etc etc.

By the way, Tool doesn't need to leak an album to pick up sales. Come on, Tool probably has one of the biggest if not the biggest cult fan base in the music industry right now and has for years. Concert tickets are practically impossible to get. Fans have been excited and waiting for years. This album will be flying off the shelves.

I don't think the motivation would be to get more sales... but has to do with sales strategy.

And I care, if you don't then good for you.

As far as Franck's "tell me what I fucking want to know right fucking now" posts - I'm not going to tell you the point, as I'm not them.

It's just a thoery that if true, in my opinion would be a very neat play on the act of "releasing" an album.

You guys have to remember that they're artists, and not just with music. There's a reason their debut album was an EP. Think about that.

Yeh, thats where people start getting deep and sappy about the "art". I like the music, the "art" really doesn't mean much to me.

Anyway, what was the reason their debut album was an EP? Are you telling me their first album was an EP for some artsy reason rather than it being a bunch of broke guys trying to make it big like every other band? Granted, Tool isn't "every other band", I am just entertained by all of the artsy reasons people find to explain something quite simple.

You know, Sly, it's kind of irritating that you word your posts in a manner which, at least to me if not anyone else; feel like they have to defend themselves. This is the second time you've done this in one of my threads.

Do I appreciate these kinds of "artsy" things? Yes. Do I care whether or not you think it's "not cool" or "sappy" or any other euphemisms for "non-macho"? Absolutely not.

I like what I like and I am entertained not by "all of the artsy reasons people find to explain something quite simple." but rather by finding the profound in the mundane. It's just a theory, which I enjoyed researching.

If that doesn't interest you or hold your attention, why post in here other than for provocation?

Myabe you have nothing better to do with your time, I'm not sure.

Again, my personal theory on this was to avoid commercialism, which they later catered to and embraced. A thing to consider to support this theory:

Zoo Records, which was the label for both their wildly successful (and distributed, and promoted) album Undertow as well as their quiet, underpromoted, under-distributed album Opiate.

So, the whole "broke guys" thing doesn't hold, and that's not considering that they weren't kids starting a band but adults with (paying) careers.
