Would You Take Less Money To Work For A Big Well Known Adult Company

If you were offered say $100,000 a year to come work for small company XYZ.com and then you had an offer for $75,000 a year to go work for a huge adult company like Playboy/Hustler/Vivid/Homegrown.

Would you take the job that pays less that everyone recognizes and admires? Or just take the job with the company that is lesser known and pays better?

What would you do?

DH

P.S. BTW NONE of the companies I named above are cheap in regards to paying their employees. (at least I have never heard anyone complain). I used them because they are some of the biggest, best and most well known companies in adult.

I will only work for someone if they pay me what I am worth.

I am now working for a boss for the first time in 15 years.

I will NEVER compromise myself.

Look DH. I know you are asking yourself if you should just give up this whole traffic thing you are working on for a starter position at Playboy? The answer is obvious.

Welcome onboard.

Really very interesting, you would give up all the benefits and respect you would get for working with a bigger well known company (plus more job security). To work for a company that pays 25% more?

I dont think its so clear cut, it depends on what you are trying to achieve in your career and what sort of financial commitments you have.

At this point, I would go with the lesser known company for more money. Sometimes there just more freedom working with lesser known companies that arent in the public eye as much, but that isnt always the case.

The reputation of a company isn't really a big deal to me. Who am I going to brag to afterall, my friends? My friends already love the fact I work in this business, at this point its all about the bling.

It has nothing to do with being rich. It has to do with having freedom!

So I would use that as a factor above the "fame" of the company. I'd take a pay cut for freedom, no problem! I see nothing incredible about working for a "big" company, its just another business like any other.

Bigger compaines have better health insurance, 401ks, etc, which evens out a lot of the salary advantage.

It depends on sooooo many other things. Big name companies are overrated. I'd take the lesser pay assuming it's performance based only because I know that I can perform. If the company is smaller, it's more likely that there's more growth potential and the would probably NEED me more and would be willing to pay what I'm worth.

Reputation, payment history, leniency of hours, quality of product, and policies and procedures ALL factor in. If you have the right balance of pros and cons, then that will be the deciding factor. It's what's going to make you the most happy long term.

Hi Sweetie!

The smaller company everytime. People are more forgiving in a close, family-like atmosphere. God knows most in this industry have made their share of huge fucking mistakes. Just look at the pics of Raj's golf cart! LOL I doubt Hef would have paid for that!

In a second... Google has already hit its maturity as far as I'm concerned. I'd rather go work for a pre-IPO company at this point than something where the potential for growth is rather limited.

This is a tough question.

For someone without alot of experience they should definitely work for a bigger company to get the knowledge and experience.
Look what that's done for people like Wizzo, Sixnine, RAM, Tanker, etc etc etc.

If you're a "star" then you go to work for the small company because you can make it a big company, and get a much bigger slice of that pie than you would ever get from one of the big boys.

It depends on how up and coming the small company was...Plus if it's a smaller company, I would want some kind of percentage since I helped build the program since there would be more growth potential.

If I didn't want the actual owners in the same room as me and I just wanted a job, I'd go work for Playboy. Plus just SAYING that you work for Playboy will open up other doors for you..If nothing else, some extra side pussy. But in the end, it would be worthless working for Playboy if you never got to know or even meet Hef. Just a PICTURE of you standing next to Hef would be a windfall for ones credibility...I wouldn't work there and show up at a function and the bigwigs didn't even know I work for them unless I told them.

But most people who are now used to getting this porn money on their own would probably pick neither....I just can't see myself working for anybody, even if it's in the porn biz..It's unnatural.

But the ONLY position that I wouldn't immediately turn down would be an offer from Playboy or Hustler....I would work for Playboy for a year or two max just for the experience and the connections...Same with Hustler.

100% agreed. Has anyone ever INTERVIEWED at Google. By the time you get into the 3rd of .. ohhh.. 18 interviews, you wanna tell them to go F*** themselves.

Especially now when it aint worth as much money as say if you joined 4-5 years ago. I cant stand companies with that elitest attitude and Google is def one of them.

Direct quotes from Google employees:

"Oh we wont hire anyone with less than an MBA for sales/business positions."

"Yeah by the time I got to my 13th round of interviews, I knew I was in."

And my all time favorite:

"Well its a contract position with no benefits for an indefinite period of time."

And the #1 reason NOT to work for Google:

Whoever did the interior design on place must have been tripping acid. There is no reason why all those damn colors should be EVERYWHERE. Its a bit much if you ask me.

I would have to believe in the company I'm working for. Would have to take pride in the products/services they offer. I'd definetly be willing to take a paycut to work for a company I that I respect.

Yep you have a good point there. But you are a single, rich guy who has little to worry about at this point.... For the other 95% of the IT guys who live paycheque to paycheque, they would cut their eye teeth to have a job at google.

A friend of mine is the top boss at his Mcdonalds and it's a pretty big job. He may not get the respect of the general public but he gets my respect because I know what his job entails.

He runs a multi-million dollar store, manages 60+ employees and runs a very tight ship.

That's a great questions DH and I have thought about that alot.

The bonus about working for a bigger company is that you seem to get respected off the back quicker and it looks good on a resume. You tend have a bigger budget and are more high profile so you can get deals done much fasterm because most large companies may sponser an event or party and it helps you meet contacts fastedr. If you can deal with company politics and i have heard to get the things you want done you have to go thru a bunch of loop holes.

There are pro's and con's to both sides but for me im not every materiaistic or money hungy. I know this may not be my best trait however keep the 25k its not worth it to me.

I choose to do the latter and grow with the company as we progressed. It gives a feeling of satisfaction and accoplisment. It may take an extra year or two to get it but to me thats a much better feeling.

I don't think I would choose to work for a big company even if the pay/benefits were exactly the same. Playboy.com probalby looks better on a resume than xyzporn.com sponsor, but other than that I don't see any obvious benefits.

it's usually the opposite. for the most part you'll usually actually make more working for a smaller company.

Look what that's done for people like Wizzo, Sixnine, RAM, Tanker, etc etc etc.

If you're a "star" then you go to work for the small company because you can make it a big company, and get a much bigger slice of that pie than you would ever get from one of the big boys.
Very good points Lenny, all those guys have done exceptionally well since the days of them working with the biggies.

I sat next to Wizzo on the plane ride home from my very first internext.

He had just left Adult.com and moved back to Houston to do his own thing.
He told me he would have worked for Lensman for free if he'd had to, because you couldn't put a price on the things he learned while he was there.

A paycheck isn't the only thing you can take home from the right job.

Derek good points there...

BTW I have a job lined up for you but it's 25k less than you currently make... I expect to see you at 9am on Monday at our office

I wouldn't base my decision on either. I would base it on the growth potential of what I could be earning 5-7 years down the line. First year salary means little. The opportunity to be something bigger down the road is what its about (and that usually comes with smaller, less known companies). I would work a job for free for the first year if it meant I could learn a lot and a earn a lot more 5-7 or 8 years down the road. Thats what I tell all my friends who are graduating college, forget about first year salaries. Look at how the company promotes people within, there's nothing worst than being stuck at a dead end job, even if it pays more when you're first starting out.
