Impeachment - Does Anyone Know The Steps To Getting It Done?
I don't know much about this process. Where does it start?
Here's the thing, the Declaration of Independence states in so many words that if our their is something wrong with our leadership its our responsibility to do something about it. Now a days, everything is so damn complex. There are so many things that people still don't know about the Bush administration but most of us know that George Bush and his evil empire are ruining our country and the rest of the world. How can we speed up the process of removing him from office? Do we need petitions? I hope someone has some knowledge on this.

If the American people would unite and stand up for whats right instead of just sitting around waiting for someone else to do something, we could get him out. I love my life and my country too much to just sit on my ass and do nothing. I have emailed my congressman and gotten nothing back. I just need to know what can be done so I can try.

There is a state in the NE that recently started it, I'd start by looking at what process they began and see if there is a similar venue/course of action established in your state.
http://www.thenation.com/blogs/thebeat?bid=1&pid=66746 is one ref to this being done recently...

An impeachment is a very serious issue that should be used in an extreme case - Not when someone gets a blow job or attempts to hide it after the fact. What happened to Clinton was politics, and was nothing short of mean and nasty.
While I'm no fan of Bush, but impeachment is not the right answer unless someone can prove a serious crime was commited. Impeachment is not a joke, or something used by one political party to shame the other.

If Dubya gets impeached and removed from office then what will change? Cheney and Rove will still be there.
I think the best thing to focus on today is pushing to help the Democrats get control of The Senate in November. That would immediately make our government more like a democracy and less like a theocracy. Right now the republicans are so arrogant that they openly admit to doing what's best for the republican party instead of what's best for the people of the USA. Of course the scariest time will be the last 6 weeks of Dubya in office. His papa sent troops to a number of places as he was leaving office and of course many people ended up blaming Clinton for these conflicts even though Bush started them. Dubya is a little more trigger happy then his pop so we might have a serious blood bath start in December 2008. |

No matter what, you people will bitch about any president. I for one can sleep at night knowing Bush protects me with his ability to start wars. Although he has done a lot of wrong I still believe it is for the greater good of the country, especially for our safety. When I heard the Iranian president, who I would shoot on site, announce that Israel will be annihilated, I gave a huge sigh of relief knowing Bush is our president, and if Iran attacks Israel, Bush can and will blow Iran right off the map. You just don't understand that terrorists are afraid of the United States especially right now with Bush in power.

For those of you who continue to believe that "We The People" voted for this schmuck... have you ever considered that maybe we didn't? That maybe you shouldn't always believe what you see on TV? That maybe, the polls were simply altered for the media?
I'm not saying that this is actually what happened, but to totally dismiss the concept simply because FOX News told you otherwise, is fucking ignorant. Come on people, wake up.

Why Donhahaha8217;t We Do Away With Political Parties?
By David Slone, Times-Union Staff Writer Lethahaha8217;s get rid of all political parties. No more Republicans, no more Democrats, no more Libertarians. What Ihahaha8217;m proposing is not a new concept. In fact, the first president of the United States, George Washington, advised in the beginning that political parties would only hurt the patriotism of this country. According to the 1992 Almanac biography on him, Washington feared that allegiance to hahaha8220;factionshahaha8221; would someday eclipse the guiding light of patriotism. After refusing a third term to be president in 1796, he warned in his farewell address against party spirit. Imagine that hahaha8211;hahaha202;a politician advising against political parties in an effort to put the country first. Political parties have overtaken American policies to such an extent, though, that the right thing is whatever will advance the party, not the country. If they canhahaha8217;t help their own party, politicians make their decisions based on how they can hurt the other party. How much better could the United States be if its leaders would act in a nonpartisan manner to advance the country? What kind of better education would students receive if political parties didnhahaha8217;t exist? What would the economy be like? Social Security? Life in general? Of course, people will always differ on the ideas and means of making our country better; thathahaha8217;s not debatable. However, when parties enter the picture, they only complicate matters. Therehahaha8217;s left-wing conspiracies and right-wing conspiracies, but they are only called conspiracies for one party to make the other party look bad. If there were no political parties at all, there may still be conspiracies, but I believe there would be fewer of them. People may also believe in fewer conspiracies if political parties were absent from the scene. If there are only two groups running the country, therehahaha8217;s more of a likelihood that a group of people can cover up schemes and misdeeds. However, if every candidate is out for himself knowing that he had to be at his best behavior because no one was going to cover up for him, there should not be an easy means for the truth to be hidden or for lies to be told. Of course, that may be too simple because everyone is born inherently bad anyhow. During the Clinton impeachment in the House of Representatives, partisanship divided the House. Many Democrats felt the Republicans were hahaha8220;pickinghahaha8221; on Clinton to avenge the Nixon impeachment in 1974. Republicans accused the Democrats of not doing what was right just because the president is a Democrat. Other accusations, party slanders and slants were thrown around the House like children throwing stones at recess. Regardless of whether or not one thinks Clinton should be impeached, the whole childish behavior demonstrated by both parties is embarrassing. Republicans and Democrats booed and hissed whenever the opposing party made a comment or did something they didnhahaha8217;t like. The political party hostility even turned so ugly that Bob Livingston needlessly resigned when his inappropriate behavior was noticed. Now all members of both parties should go to their corners and take some time out. When I go to the polls, I donhahaha8217;t vote straight party. I try to vote for whom I think will be the best candidate. In the 1998 elections, I voted for a few Democrats and a few Republicans. I felt that the candidates I voted for would provide the best service to the community in which I live. And the same will go for the next presidential election. I voted for President Bill Clinton in 1996 because I thought he would do a better job than Bob Dole, but wonhahaha8217;t vote for Vice-President Al Gore for president because I donhahaha8217;t think he is the best candidate for the job. I also wonhahaha8217;t vote for Dan Quayle, who just announced his candidacy Jan. 21, because I donhahaha8217;t think he is capable of being president. So, hopefully, someone who I think can do an effective and great job for this country will step in the spotlight soon so I will have someone to cast my vote for in 2000. And they wonhahaha8217;t even have to be a member of any particular party. Why do some people insist on a straight party ballot when they go to the polls? Therehahaha8217;s no guarantee that youhahaha8217;re getting the best candidates that way. Sounds pretty ignorant, if you really think about it. But I digress. While the Constitution of the United States of America does not create political parties, it allows for them. One area of the Constitution that allows for the creation of political parties is the First Amendment. It states that Congress shall make no law prohibiting the right of the people peaceably to assemble. Any effort to abolish or break up any political party would be a great violation against this great land of ours because the Constitution allows for parties to assemble. I still think, though, that political party membershahaha8217; mothers need to turn them over their knees once in a while and give them a good spanking. And so, while I believe that political parties are here to stay against my better wishes, the parties could learn to be bipartisan. Instead of voting against something because a person of the opposing party backs it, why not give it a chance? If ithahaha8217;s really not a good, sound piece of legislation for the country, then they should vote against it. And if it does make sense to pass it, the politicians should pass the legislation and congratulate the politician who initiated the matter. Guess that will never happen, though, as the parties just continue to divide from one another and divide America. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Times-Union Homepage hahaha169; 1999 by Times-Union. What are you going to impeach him for? What are you charging him with? |

First off - while articles of impeachment were brought against Clinton he was acquitted by the Senate - so Clinton was not "impeached" - just the facts. If he had of been found guilty by a 2/3s vote of the Senate then he would have been removed from office.
Second - in answer to your original question - an impeachment is started by the House of Reps - it does the investigations (usually by an independent group of Representatives that are not in the running for a presidential election in the future and normally pretty much "unknowns") with hearings and finally by vote to confirm articles of impeachment if the hearings seem to warrant them. The charges are then passed to the Senate for an impeachment trial - again more hearings - and then if they find that it warrants impeachment - they vote and must get a 2/3rds majority. At that point if sucessful, then the President would be removed and the Vice-President would step in. With two years left - first off there isnt enough time - and just like Clinton did, he'd probably just go bomb someone (Clinton was accused of bombing Saddam to delay his hearings by the republicans at the time) and he'd be out of office long before an investigation could ever complete its course. |

The right to impeach public officials is secured by the U.S. Constitution in Article I, Sections 2 and 3, which discuss the procedure, and in Article II, Section 4, which indicates the grounds for impeachment: "the President, Vice President, and all civil officers of the United States shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
Removing an official from office requires two steps: (1) a formal accusation, or impeachment, by the House of Representatives, and (2) a trial and conviction by the Senate. Impeachment requires a majority vote of the House; conviction is more difficult, requiring a two-thirds vote by the Senate. The vice president presides over the Senate proceedings in the case of all officials except the president, whose trial is presided over by the chief justice of the Supreme Court. This is because the vice president can hardly be considered a disinterested partyhahaha8212;if his or her boss is forced out of office he or she is next in line for the top job! |

You as a sole citizen can do nothing to impeach the President. 50 million people could sign their names at www.ImpeachBush.org and it still wouldn't initiate the process.

This is what I'm talking. There are so many stupid lazy Americans that think they can't make a difference. But if everyone did try and do something, it would be interesting to see what happens. Its like the idiots that say I won't ever win the lotto and so they never play. You can't win if you don't play. You just gotta go for it even if the odds are against you. Our president is so bad for America. The rest of the world starts to associate Americans as shit because of our leaders. Everyone's gotta try to do something, anything ... just don't sit on your ass.
