Got in trouble with the COPS last night after the club! - GoFuckYourself.com

The story:

So after hitting up the club last night me and my buddy were heading home and as we were leaving the parking garage I remember I forgot to get my parking ticket validated by the door people. Needless to say at that time of night the club is the only establishment open that late. Well I tell the parking attendant I forgot to get it validated and I show him the stamp on my wrist to prove we were in the club. I frequent this club often and it wasn't a big deal in the past and they would let us drive on through and pay the validated fee, but this asshole says we have to pay the regular price. So I tell him I'm going to let my buddy go get the ticket validated if I have to pay the regular price. (It was only 10 dollars compared to the validate price of $3). I just wanted to give the parking attendant a hard time because he was giving me a hard time. So as my friend went to get it validated I just sat there and the line of cars keeps growing and growing because I'm blocking the exit waiting for my buddy. I start blasting my music (some of that hard trance/bass) to just piss him off more. Once my friend gets back and the attendant opens the gate we started yelling all kinds of shit to him, and I pull out of the parking garage I burn some rubber! Two seconds later we see our friends on the road and we start yelling their name and BAM!!! all of a sudden I hear loud voices yelling "PULL OVER!!!" I was like what the fuck, where did all these cops come from!! There was like 5-6 cops around my car. This was like only 30 ft from the parking garage. To make a long story shorter here was the conversation:

COP: Why did you burn out?
ME: The parking attendants were giving us a hard time.
COP: Have you had anything to drink tonight.
ME: I had one or two drinks.
COP: Well I can smell alcohol coming out of your vehicle.
ME: I'm not going to argue with you sir. (I started to shit at this point, I knew the sobriaty test was coming)
COP: What did you say?
ME: I'm not going to argue with you.
COP: Do you mind if we do some tests?
ME: What kind of tests?
COP: It's a yes or no answer.
ME: How can I answer yes or no if I don't know what tests your talking about.
COP: It's a test to see if your capable of driving safely. So, do you mind if we do some tests.
(LOL, I pause a few seconds to think about it)
ME: Okay.
COP: Please step out of your vehicle and my partner will take care of you over here.

So I go over to the partner and he gives me all the yada yada yada, some about prescriptions and doctors and broken eyes..... At this point I'm thinking to myself "how come it sounds like these guys memorized a script and are reading it to me", and I wasn't paying attention to what he was telling me

. All I know is I had to follow the light. So on the first attempt when he moves the light to my left guess what I do? I follow the light with my eyes AND TURN MY HEAD!

Well for those of you who've done this before your not suppose to turn your head just move your eyes.

COP: Why did you turn your head! Didn't you understand what I just said?
ME: Sorry sir I'm just a little nervous right now. (haha...)
COP: I don't care if your nervous or not! I'm going to say it again follow the light and using your eyes and don't turn your head.

(At this point I'm like already planning in my head how I'm going to get bailed out and all that shit...) So he goes on with the test and I follow the light (this is what I had to drink at the club, a Cherry Bomb shot, and about 5 Coronas).
I was waiting to hear "Put your hand behind your back, we're putting you under arrest for driving under the influence, but instead he tells me to sit down in my car. So we hear them discussing it, and at that point I'm like hell ya I'm home free, they would have put me in restraints by now if I was going to jail. So the first cop comes over and starts asking me where I live, address, where I work , and all that other crap (I was thinking in my head don't tell him you do PORN) LOL. He goes back and they start writing tickets!

COP: I'm going to do you a favor tonight and not charge you with showboating. You know what that is right?
ME: Yes, it's when I burned out coming out of the garage.
COP: No, I meant you know what happens if you get charged with that?
ME: No.
COP: You'd have to go to court and see a judge...blah blah...he said some other stuff that I don't remember.
ME: Oh.
COP: We are going to charge you with illegal tint ($287)

, obstruction of license plate ($97)

, and not wearing your seat belt ($87)

.

TOTAL ABOUT $500 dollars

This is when I just realized I hadn't been wearing my seat belt! FUCK!

...but I didn't care I was thinking in my head just give me all the tickets, as long as I don't get charged with anything serious, have to spend time in jail, get my license taken away, and have my insurance go up!

Needless to say after thinking about it I got off with a good deal. I didn't get tagged with anything serious that would show I was driving reckless, and would have fucked up my insurance.

Moral of the story: "Respect the cops and most will respect you back"
I say most, there are alot of assholes. If there's anything that I learned from my father that was one. He always told me if you get pulled over and you were drinking always respect the cops and don't argue with them. They are the law and could easily fuck you up and give you a hard time if they wanted too.

The lesson you learned from your father is pretty simple. I never understand why people get cocky and an attitude with cops, they're just asking for more trouble. If you're polite, calm, and act normal a lot of times you can get off with warnings.

You should address a cop as "officer" when in a tight spot. They love that. It implys more authority than "sir" and authority is why they became cops.

Funny, are you from 3rd world country?

Here in The Netherlands they don't do 'tests' with your eyes and follow a light. You just have to blow in some machine, and the machine calculates how much alcohol you have used.

My eyes for example get very red and 'tired' when there is a lot of smoke in the area(bars for example) I would fail for every eye test when I come out of it

(and no I don't drink when I need to drive, think it's stupid)

That was why I asked the cop what kind of test. I wanted to know if it was the breathalizer or the physical test. If it was the breathalizer I was thinking of saying "No, I wont do the test". But then I kind of remembered hearing someone say that if you refuse to take the breathalizer that's automatic that your going to jail. So i'm not really sure what I would have done, luckily it was the physical test, because I was pretty sure I could pass it.

Anyone know if you refuse the breathalizer test what happens?

Its not about if you think you can drive or not. You had too much drinks to be able to drive home safe.

Ask the 1000's of people who drive drunk and make accidents every year if they thought they were able to drive. 99% will say yes. People always think they are better than others.

I can drive faster because im a good driver.
I can drive drunk because im more concentrated when i had a few drinks.

can't argue with you there...i know exactly what your talking about when people say they can still drive even though they are shit wasted..i have a friend that is like that and does that...even though we tell him he can't drive he still thinks he can...

i'm not disagreeing with you on anything, but I do believe i'm a responsible drinker and when I know I can't drive or am impaired I will let people know. I've done this on many occassions, telling people I'm not able to drive because I think i'm to intoxicated. I'm not one of those people that try to trick myself that I can still drive when there is even a little doubt in my mind that I can't drive safely.

I understand that though that the best way is to just "Don't drink and drive" period.

Officer im a student at (insert local college here) majoring in Criminal Justice, please sir, I made a mistake tonight but something on my record could hurt my carrieer goals.

Cops love it, since at one point they had to take criminal justice classes. Dont ever say "I want to be a cop someday too", that sounds like bullshit.

But if you're in the college age range - of corse they have no way to check what classes you are enrolled in, so have fun with it ;)

My car has a really strong Cherry scented air freshener, I sprayed cologne before going to the club, and it was very windy last night.

And I was chewing like 3 Dentyne Ice mint gums.

believe me, someone who hasnt been drinking himself can smell booze on someone from a mile away. Its like garlic. Once you ate eat you dont smell it yourself but others smell it as soon as you walk into the door.

Something I understand also. I've experienced this from the sober side. Smelling alchohol on someone thats been drinking. But if you've ever smelt the air freshener I have in my car first-hand then you would understand. I've had people tell me as soon as I open my car and they are about 30ft away they can smell the air freshener in my car.

Tthere are many factors that can make the police officer make a wrong decision when testing for sobriety...that's why i think it's a roll of the dice and very uncertain when having to deal with this sort of thing....that's why if you act respectful too the cops and they aren't asshole hopefully they base their decisions/judgement on your behavior towards them.

So, do you mind if we do some tests. (LOL, I pause a few seconds to think about it) ME: Okay. COP: Please step out of your vehicle and my partner will take care of you over here. So I go over to the partner and he gives me all the yada yada yada, some about prescriptions and doctors and broken eyes..... At this point I'm thinking to myself "how come it sounds like these guys memorized a script and are reading it to me", and I wasn't paying attention to what he was telling me . All I know is I had to follow the light. So on the first attempt when he moves the light to my left guess what I do? I follow the light with my eyes AND TURN MY HEAD! Well for those of you who've done this before your not suppose to turn your head just move your eyes. COP: Why did you turn your head! Didn't you understand what I just said? ME: Sorry sir I'm just a little nervous right now. (haha...) COP: I don't care if your nervous or not! I'm going to say it again follow the light and using your eyes and don't turn your head. (At this point I'm like already planning in my head how I'm going to get bailed out and all that shit...) So he goes on with the test and I follow the light (this is what I had to drink at the club, a Cherry Bomb shot, and about 5 Coronas). I was waiting to hear "Put your hand behind your back, we're putting you under arrest for driving under the influence, but instead he tells me to sit down in my car. So we hear them discussing it, and at that point I'm like hell ya I'm home free, they would have put me in restraints by now if I was going to jail. So the first cop comes over and starts asking me where I live, address, where I work , and all that other crap (I was thinking in my head don't tell him you do PORN) LOL. He goes back and they start writing tickets! COP: I'm going to do you a favor tonight and not charge you with showboating. You know what that is right? ME: Yes, it's when I burned out coming out of the garage. COP: No, I meant you know what happens if you get charged with that? ME: No. COP: You'd have to go to court and see a judge...blah blah...he said some other stuff that I don't remember. ME: Oh. COP: We are going to charge you with illegal tint ($287) , obstruction of license plate ($97) , and not wearing your seat belt ($87) . TOTAL ABOUT $500 dollars This is when I just realized I hadn't been wearing my seat belt! FUCK! ...but I didn't care I was thinking in my head just give me all the tickets, as long as I don't get charged with anything serious, have to spend time in jail, get my license taken away, and have my insurance go up! Needless to say after thinking about it I got off with a good deal. I didn't get tagged with anything serious that would show I was driving reckless, and would have fucked up my insurance. Moral of the story: "Respect the cops and most will respect you back" I say most, there are alot of assholes. If there's anything that I learned from my father that was one. He always told me if you get pulled over and you were drinking always respect the cops and don't argue with them. They are the law and could easily fuck you up and give you a hard time if they wanted too. Here in The Netherlands they don't do 'tests' with your eyes and follow a light. You just have to blow in some machine, and the machine calculates how much alcohol you have used. Cops love it, since at one point they had to take criminal justice classes. Dont ever say "I want to be a cop someday too", that sounds like bullshit. But if you're in the college age range - of corse they have no way to check what classes you are enrolled in, so have fun with it ;)
