Why does IE keep saving .jpg as .bmp?

Since yesterday, my Internet Explorer keeps saving JPEG pictures as bitmap pictures. I have no idea why it started doing this.

Anyone else know why this happens and how to change it back?

Yeah, I fixed it by deleting all the files in my cache. Then re-starting IE.

Soul Rebel - Congrats, you've been hacked if you see your screen upside down. Some kid is most likely playing with your computer.

Get trojan remover. (search in google)

That should fix it

haha.. http://support.microsoft.com is a good place to start for problems with ms products.

As it turns out all you need to do is click Tools -> Internet Options - Delete Files

This bmp instead of jpg anomaly happens when your temporary internet folder is full... "Search" is your friend.. try it.

Maybe you should buy a copy of InternetEraser and keep this from becoming a problem?

Its some weird glitch within Explorer, because I've had it happen on certain sites and not others during the same timeframe.

What I do is just use "SAVE TARGET" from the thumbnail and it will save as a .jpg.

Just do the following and you will never have this problem again:

Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced... select 'Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed'...

Good deal - that is very useful. I have to delte the temp files about 5 times/day. Just doing reviews would cause the bmp bitch to appear.

Here is what you are looking for,

http://support.microsoft.com/search/...;en-us;Q260650

PS Mac's suck

I was working at a large publishing company that had over 150 Mac's note the word had.

Also the Motorola plant that builds the G4 chips just made the switch to Dell's from the G3's that were using, pretty sad when Mac is there customer and they wont even use the shit.

Maybe for a newbie or a clueless user they are ok, but put them on a big network and the shit hits the fan, also Cisco switches have tons of issues with Mac's on a network, dropping connection slow as hell, it's just not worth it to use anymore.

Cyber3, ever run a packet sniffer on a network with a group of windows machines? They constantly spew garbage around the network.
I don't use windows or macos, but I have, and neither one is pretty when it comes to networking.

Depends on the ADMIN. If you run a Win2K / Active directory, it dosent "broadcast" anything.. everything is controlled by the directory.... its like the matrix..it owns your ass. Even better.. upgrade to IP v- 6

Oh yea we did all of that, used the new Fluke, bottom line was we had OSX file servers on a segmented network just for the Macs, which was so slow it was a joke, plus we could not keep the OSX file servers up with the load that we had.

We moved them into our Win2k active network on a Compaq cluster server, the difference was amazing all the issues went away.

The final straw was the end users blamed the network for not being able to do their work on time, once on the win2k that excuse was gone. Then they wanted new G4 at 3k a pop they all got 1k Dell's.

There production has never been better, they went form a 100 + Mac's to 2 left that are for type setting.

Bottom line is Mac's suck on a network, we tried everything to get them to work, what a waste of time.

what i dont understand is how come the 'problem' is never fixed, it just keeps happening.

http://www.apple.com/switch

clearing the cache and rebooting may temporarily fix it, but it doesnt clear the problem thats for sure.

do you check the box for "Delete All Offline Content"? If not, try that, and see if it is ok. Also, you'd have to refresh the page in order to save an image after clearing out the old files.

of course, you can also right click -> save target as, too
