why do programs choose shitty names for themselves and long, hard to remember names
for their paysites?
actually the second thing has certain advantages for some affiliates but overall from a program perspective - why dont they invest into better sounding, more brandable and easier to remember names ? .

Because every webmaster and his mother thinks he can run a paysite and a sponsor program, regardless of being incompetent or not? Just a wild guess.
