I'm addicted to fishing

Always was told to get a life, and I found a life saltwater fishing here in Florida. I love to pier fish, and this weekend caught my 3rd pompano [17 inches], the most expensive fish to buy per pound in the entire continental USA :-)

If I had access to my server I would upload this fish that DID NOT get away--

No doubt there are other anglers that love this sport too, please show off your prize fish!

That would be excellent, sent my webmaster the pix to upload sometime today--I go as often as I can, use 40lb test line, 60lb steel lead, make my own tackle and throw live shrimp, finger mullet, squid or sand fleas--Using shimano 6500 baitrunner and an ugly stix--We also love to catch the large sail cats, caught an 18 inch one and catfish are great if you know what your doing, thank god I know somebody that does--Lee don't cook

We fish in Daytona area--Anyone eat the blues? I hear they are oily..

Getting surfers to go to paysites and upselling them once they're inside IS a form of fishing

LeeNoga:

Is there a reason why you use a 60lb lead when you are using 40lb line? I have been under the impression that your lead is supposed to be less than the line, so the lead breaks and saves the loss of your line.

I've never been saltwalter fishing, just freshwater.

My 'prize fish' is a 6.1lb bass. I only fish casually when we go up to the cottage during the summer though But damn, that was a big ass bass.

I used to go out Blue fishing on big party boats in NJ, usually out of Belmar. Not only are they oily, but they are bloody as hell, and mean, too.

If you hit a school who are in an aggressive feed mode, you are in for some hot action.

Similar to Amberjack fishing in the Florida Gulf. AJ's are pretty oily, too.

Use the 60lb fishing lead because of all the barnacles and crap on the bottom, use to use 60lb flurocarbon clear filament lead but a school of blues or ladyfish tear them up, so stuck with 60lb and use nylon coated steel with no problems--

Gee, 12 clicks you figured it out!

Lee where in SoFla do you live?

You may want to check out my friends fishing gear site http://HotFish.com I think you'll love it!!! Check out the board there for fishing stories and recipe's. They are sponsoring a fishing tournament and bikini contest this month.

Pompano is great eating! I've heard it is THE BEST whitefish to eat. Great catch!

The largest one I ever caught was deep sea fishing in Acapulco, now this goes back a few years (70s)At the time it was 2 inches off the official record. And it was about 168 lbs (I think) and yes I do have the pics somewhere. Where I presently live I have a creek in my back yard, excellent fishing, its trout in the spring and salmon in the fall. The largest salmon I caught was about 171/2lbs which is actually too big (too many toxins) you try and get the smaller ones

Thanks Cyndalie for the fishing URL--I live about 25 miles from Daytona, North of Orlando :-)

So there are other pier anglers reading along, thats great.

We catch and release the blues but they are hell on the leads, and that made me go to steel....do you eat them or do you throw them back--The old timers here say to slit the throat and bleed them alive if you plan on eating them later...it removes alot of the strong taste and they are best used in a chowder--

Not something I will do thats for sure--but they are nice fighters--

Gawd, to have a place to fish for bass and salmon in ones yard would be heaven :-))

We caught a sheepshead, and hear they are good eating too, did not get much filet from it tho, it was only 12 inches [state min] legal size--

Im so addicted to fishing, I give all the bait names :-)

Thanks for the fish chatting--always curious what ppl use for rigs, tackle or tips they found of interest---

Best Jackfish (pike) and pickeral (walleye) fishing in the WORLD is just a little north of me here. Incredible trout fishing too.

i love beach and deepsea fishing.. nothing like a big perch or snapper from out wide. or a bunch of whiting off the sand...
i think whiting are possibly the best eating fish..

I caught a 32 inches bass last month. Cape May (NJ) is not a bad place for fishing.

Lee - if you slice the fish under the gills and let it bleed as soon as you land it, you'll get less blood through the flesh.

Jewfish are caught in St Pete Florida over 150 pounds and they are illegal to keep, we got so many freaking laws.

Last year at the jetties caught a 31.5 inch red fish and had to throw it back or get a $180 fine, damn game wardens watched me land it, and the lady was a cutie and so butch too! LOL, thats one fish I would not have thrown back [game warden] :-)

So bleeding all fish below the gills is what one does! I did not know that....thanks!

They got this new stuff on the market called fishbites and its synthetic and has gotten a lot of newspaper press, its like a strip of gum but tough to come off and fish love it...its like $6.95 for a pack of 15 strips-- http://www.fishbites.com , better than shrimp so they say

As for the post about taking a charter, its like $450 for 4 hours here and its a real bust if you do not catch anything-- I would buy a little boat with an outboard but I don't know anything about them, and when I bought an RV 3 years ago I knew nothing and good thing that did not turn out to be a disaster--But Im scared to get a little skiff boat since I don't know about the engines [outboard]--

Only want it to drift over to the bridge pilings and scrape barnacles and chum the water for the sheephead :-)

How does one get the pix to show up in the post here vs. using a URL :-)

I don't have any really good pics of big fish I've caught. The biggest I think was a 42# cobia. but here's a pic of some snapper we got night fishing a month ago.

ohhh ya.... i dont know if you know what a grunt is or not, but check this bitch out... I caught it earlier this year, it weighed out to 6#'s. I didnt think much about it, so I filletted it up and fed it to the cat (since i think they taste like ass). Then a couple days later I go flipping through the florida fishing records book, and mine would have beat the previous record by half a pound...

I was pissed, but oh well... check it out... its on the right

OMG that grunt is HUGE! Is that the same "grunt" when caught as a few inches we free line back out for the snook? Someone told me if you set a Florida record there is BIG BUCKS in it if ya do.

Love that boat! Im afraid that may have to be my next step but I no nothing and with my luck I would ground it into some sandbar, seems "techie".....but there is only so much one can catch on a pier, and charters are over rated, boat is the way to go--

Im so envious of all these pictures! Almost went out this morning for tide change--its only 45 min drive to this bridge, and the pompano hit like crazy......

Cyn, went over and played at the hotfish website, very nice, wish they had pompano merchandise and not the relative specie, "permit"....

Did not see the message boards....maybe I missed that page while cruising quickly over the site.

Thanks for the URL tho :-)
