anyone here think they can develop the next myspace?

Just fishing for leads.

We have the domain, we have the capital, we have the myspace traffic to take them on.....what we're missing is a few godlike developers (php/mysql/js/ajax + good linux know how) who think they can tackle a next generation myspace.

If you think you have what it takes, leave a note.

if you're serious about being the "next myspace", I would personally sway away from php/mysql and look into java+oracle or asp.net/mssql.

It's social networking, a dating/hookup finder and streaming audio/video multi-user chat all integrated, 3 different development teams working on the project... currently in early testing phase.

to many different variants of these types of communities floating around now... not that it's a dead market but you pretty much have an idea of who runs the game... myspace, facebook, friendster, myyearbook..

I think those are all nice first generation social networking platforms but they don't have a totally immersive experience and they all tailor to a very fickle, constantly changing audience.....except for myspace, the rest dont have true lasting power

I start www.hahahahahahahahahahahaha.com a while back but never promoted it. It has some members but I've never touched it since.

I have had a mainstream social networking site in development for over a year now that is preparing for launch in about a month. It's gonna be crazy...

If you are planning to make "myspace 2" you are already way too late. The fun is over there. "myspace" has become a generic term now, made it onto TV shows and news reports. That end of things is gone.

You need to think of what comes AFTER myspace... then you might have something.

tagworld has dumped tons of money into advertising and new features only to come up short.

there is no more room in that market.

you have NO idea man...my wife has been working that site for a few weeks now and the traffic is flowing so steadily...probably 200-300 uniques a day from x peep referrals

I am running contests for her on there, and giving away shit, it really has become part of our daily routine

i even put up a link on myspace saying we would no longer be there, to find her on x peeps

it may be too late to launch the next "MYSPACE", but I don't believe success lies in trying to duplicate MySpace/TagWorld/Tagged, etc... but if you target a vertical market and base the network around "social commerce"... you may have a chance to generate substantial revenue without the need for an exit strategy revolving around being acquired. We own a stake in a social commerce network launching in 3 weeks targeting a market worth 11 Billion Dollars... and they've already signed up sponsors and users, so I know for a fact that a new social network can be successful.

but if you are trying to clone myspace, then add something unique, next-gen or have an angle, like http://CYWORLD.com based in Korea. (US version in BETA now) - virtual environment, marketplace, gear, etc.

or check out http://www.asmallworld.net, very exclusive vip club type of social network.

either way... good luck.

I can't explain any of the details at this time . . .

but, my partners and I are about to reveal the next, "myspace."

The only thing that can be revealed is the domain name associated with the site, because that is already of public record on whois:

Site Domain Name: www.StrainedAnus.com

Keep an eye out and well see you there!

Then ya have Hi5 and Tagged that I've been getting lots of invited from.. even though Tagged is strictly for teens.. Or tries to be.. But that's what Myspace is full of.. and they're all probably working toward lots of law enforcement setting up sting ops..

From what I have heard the new one is called gooya or something like that and they have invested a ton of money into it and it is really sick and fully automated in more ways than MYSPACE.

I got the info from a guy who was raising money for it a few months back, he came to us for investment and I just touched base with him and he said they are weeks away. The last few months I have seen a lot of guys raising big money for internet projects, I just saw one that works like itunes too.

Don't have the next myspace idea, but I'm just throwing props to you for thinking outside the PHP / MySQL box. Not saying you can't build great stuff with that, but the powers of Java / J2EE containers are pretty sweet. Fuck Oracle though - those per-processor licenses are horrid.

Edit:

Just to add: The java libraries out there now; spring, velocity, axis2 -- fuck man. You can build a whole web-enabled ecosystem around that shit. Anyway, I could be wrong cuz I'm just learning that stuff, but it's definitely got potential over what PHP currently has.

Dell started in a garage building computers - nothing new for what IBM and Apple were doing.
Google started by a couple of dudes from Stanford - built a better search engine which was already done.

From what I've seen about innovation; it's not what "new" thing you build, but what better thing you build that "more" people like. Then again, I'm not business / marketing / internet guru, it's just personal opinion.

Why not work on something newer like a Tagging-enabled disruptive social-networking-aware local search cellphone app that leverages existing metadata.
