I wonder if that includes babies ?

The country counted 5.47 million mobile phone subscriptions on December 31, the equivalent of 100.8 for every 100 inhabitants.

By contrast, there are only 61.7 subcribers to fixed lines for every 100 inhabitants, the agency said.

The mobile market is dominated by Danish operator TDC and its low-cost Telmore subsidiary, with a share of more than 40 percent, followed by Telia of Sweden with 21 percent and Sonofon of Norway with more than 19 percent.

With a market growing at 30 percent a year, the Danes also are avid users of broad-band Internet, said Joergen Abild Andersen, the director of the agency. About a quarter of the population has high-speed access.

The World Economic Forum in Geneva this week listed Denmark as third after the United States and Singapore in openess to information and communication technologies.

i'm not sure if i understand though.. , not doubting you or the article but

I could understand maybe having that many phones, but not that many subscribers...

If you exclude children . old people and those that dont have phones , that must mean some people have 2 or 3 subscriptions. why would you need more than 1 cell phone

are there other things like maybe incar cell's or something ?

There is a lot of subscriptions where you don't pay a monthly fee.
The company I use I pay no monthly fee I prepay online and thats it, its the cheapest solution. When people are moving between companies I think it takes 6 or 12 months before a number is cancelled and given to someone else.

Not really surprised about the phones since pretty much every kid above the age of 7 have one these days *lol* Mom and dad each have their own and then add 1 or 2 more for work use and you get up there pretty fast..
Hehe, used to have a "girlfriends" phone myself + 2 private phones and 2 work phones.. now I'm down to one, and that one i hardly ever use :o/

Another nice fact about Denmark i just read today is that we are paying off our foreign debts so fast that by next year it will be totally payed off and we won't be owing anybody anything

well here you can buy a phone, and you have a line to receive phone calls.

You don't even need to pay anything if you don't want, just the phone..

so that explains, you can buy 10 phones at 30 bucks each, and have it for 10 years, and never every pay anything, and have them to receive phone calls. you get 10 lines

if you want to make phone calls or surf the interweb, you go to a shop and buy a prepaid card for 3 dollars, and you can talk and surf the interweb ;)
