Do You Believe In 'End Time Prophecies' Like Book Of Revelation?

Do you buy these prophecies? Like the end of the world that has been expected for 2,000 years and just keeps on rolling along?

There hasn't been a time in history (recorded anyways) when someone wasn't preaching the end of the world. heh As far as believing it, if anyone/anything is going to bring destruction, it will be mother nature herself.

There is no denying there's some eerie parallels between the bible and historic events over time.

in the beginning God created man - later man decided to return the favor.

I do believe in the 'end time prophecies' but keeping in mind that they were interpreted by man and therefore open to critical interpretation and error. Same as i believe in a God but not the god that the religions want us to believe.

Yes I believe in it completely!

The christian Jesus Christ will rise up and smote all the Christian non-believers. And then when it is over the Americans --- I mean meek shall inherit the earth.

The end of the world and biblic content have always been juxtaposed together. My interpretation is that the bible can be taken to mean many things and therefore calls on ones subjective nature or interpretation of events. If you look at it from a point of science the sun is still in its hydrogen burning phase, when it gets to element 57 the iron burning phase it is meant to implode causing a white dwarf...this would mean the end of the earth unless Mc Guyver can help us or maybe the Cling Ons ha ha

Please point out a few of these. I was raised in church all my life and had to memorize tons of scripture so that I could win Bible quiz events (the Pastor's son was expected to win) and I can't think of any!

Actually when it comes to what catholicism teaches, the book of revelations is not considered a prophecy at all. Due to all the hype, though most seem to get it wrong and assume thats what it is anyways.

Its really thought to be a book written in code, back in a time when christians were openly persecuted etc. Its all alegory for events that suppsedly took place long ago and owning a bible and talking about christ could get you killed. Its not a prophecy at all.

From a scientific perspective, the world will end.

Our Sun is a yellow, G2 V main sequence dwarf. Yellow dwarfs live
about 10 billion years (from zero-age main sequence to white dwarf
formation), and our Sun is already about 5 billion years old.

As the core runs out of hydrogen and then helium, the core will contact and the outer layers will expand, cool, and become less bright. It will become a red giant star.

As a red giant, scientists believe its diameter may extend well beyond the orbit of Venus, and even possibly beyond the orbit of Earth.

It will be pumping out a thousand times more energy, making Earth complete heated hell. The solar winds will become cyclones that will make radio communication impossible and perhaps evaporate the atmosphere altogether.

The good news is that by the time this happens the heat will warm up other planets that we couldn't possibly inhabit now, so everyone on Earth may have to relocate, assuming the planet has advanced to that level of technology.

Personally, I don't think mankind will be around though.

The earth has limited resources and eventually our population growth will do us in. Enough food and water will be a major problem going forward.

If not that, we have to worry about a catastrophic meteor strike that would send the entire planet and any survivors back to a planet of the apes lifestyle.

And when the earth's magnetic field next flips, we are going to experience chaos like never before seen on earth that will complete disrupt and possibly destroy the entire planet's electronic infrastructure.

No.

I believe aliens will come from outer space, forming large and intricate crop circles, which will release virulent new strains of bird flu, thereby wiping out the entire population of Earth. And possibly Mars, as well.

No, I definitely not.
But I do believe that there will be a major world war (it's started already, duh!) and that may bring a lot of death and desolation... we may end up living in a world like the movies show (the Postman, Mad Max, etc.)

terrorists are going to set off a couple nukes kill a couple million people. bird flu and sars are going to wipe out half the population. after that global warming will finally take full affect and cause catastrophic weather never seen before. then a super valcono will erupt at yellowstone and block out the sun for a year leaving whatever humans left on the earth starving and malnourished. if all that fails to finish us off a 200 mile wide comet is going to strike the earth at damn near lightspeed eliminating whatever living organisms were left on this piece of dirt we live on.

hope this helps you all sleep better at night.

Well we might as well face reality. All that stuff will eventually happen. Its just a question of time.

And today another report came out showing new studies that the ice is melting faster than previously thought on the poles and Greenland and by the end of this century the world's temp will be bumped up by 5 degrees which will cause sea levels to rise worldwide by 4 feet.

Not a big problem if you live high up, but most people live in coastal areas so this will be a major problem.

Also, the temp rise will increase the voracity of hurricanes, thunderstorms, tornados, etc.

No but it does make for a nice read under fiction.

Quote:
The rapture is a relatively new doctrine. It was only discovered/revealed in the 1800s.

Many do not accept the "rapture" interpretation because they feel it is not clearly expressed in the Bible, and instead relies on extrapolations and inferences made from a patchwork of disjointed verses. Many further feel that if anything this significant were intended to be a major part of Christian teaching, then surely Christ would have made a plain reference to it in his own sermons as recorded in the Gospel, and not buried such a major prophecy in a few obscure, unconnected verses of the Apostle Paul.
Quote:
Most Roman Catholics and many Protestants do not accept the concept of a rapture in which some are "taken up into Heaven" before the end of the world; this idea did not exist in the teachings of any Christians whatsoever until the 1800s, so it cannot be said to belong to Apostolic Tradition.
You can read more about this wonderful work of fiction here.

The only problem Hermes had was that all the good PR and marketing people were born after Jesus died.
