What happened to "instant" dns changes etc?
Wasn't that a big deal ... DNS and other registrar changes were supposed to go through instantly now? (as of like a year+ ago?)
What a crock of shit.

they usually do, if you aren't seeing the change it is probably because your ISP has you cached.

A lot of ISPs still do not honor "Time To Live" data in DNS entries, so when you make a change, even if your TTL is only 20 minutes, some ISPs are only updating their DNS cache once or twice a day. Comcast is guilty of this, and Bellsouth is even worse (sometimes 2+ days).
Also, if your DNS records have a long TTL (24 hours and 3 days are still common among a lot of DNS providers) then the record may not expire out of cache until the TTL expires. (Ask your ISP or DNS provider if this doesn't make sense to you, and don't be afraid to ask more than once, as most front line tech support have little to no idea how DNS works and will tell you almost anything.)

When I'm at the office, it's instant. When I'm at home on Comcast, it's usually at least 12-14 hours unless it magically catches it right.

thanks for the info gents. Gaybucks, per your post, I am on Comcast so that might indeed explain why it takes 8+ hours sometimes.
