Florida Vacations

Ive done the Fort L./Miami thing too many times. I was thinking about clearwater or the Keys.

Where do you recomend for a family trip? Something with calm beaches and quite waters.

thx,
Ray

If you want quiet beaches and waters, go to the west coast of Florida. Naples, Marco Island, etc...

When are you planning to go? It's best to go in late April, though May IMO. There are less tourists in Naples/Marco Island at that time, and the weather is wonderful.

One month after Easter rates around the state will change......and the snowbirds will depart.

Perfect, I would definitely recommend Naples and/or Marco Island then.

Do your kids like spending all week at the beach? When I was a kid, I was bored with it after a day or two. We always stayed on the beach, but then we took several day trips to Orlando to go to the Disney Parks, Universal Studios, Sea Wold, Bush Gardens, etc.

Ahh, well, don't keep her out in the sun too much then.

My parents took us all over the place when we were babies...don't remember any of it. Most people don't remember anything that happened to them before they were around 3 years old. If I had kids, I'd leave them with the grandparents when I went on vacation so I could actually relax and have some adult time. Then just tell them that they actually went with you when they're older.

Orlando is nice, lots of stuff to do as a family. Gulf Coast of Florida/Alabama is very nice as well but I think closer to Mississipi is a bit of a mess still due to Hurricane Katrina.

If you want a family vacation and want to be close to the beach and places like Disney and Busch Gardens then Clearwater is a good place. Even during Spring Break it's quiet. they don't get allthose crazy crowds. May is also good time to go. Most tourist are gone so rates are lower. I've been to Destin in the Panhandle. Great beaches but not close to anything like Disney and such. Orlando is in the middle of the state so it's not near the beach. Also in Clearwater area you could catch a Devil Rays game which are played in St Pete. Parking is free this year and you can get tickets dirt cheap.

I live in the Tampa area and the Clearwater/St Pete area is really good place for families. There are also tons of stuff for the adults also.
