Robert Bateman is a legend. I used to have a documentary about him. Just stunning work. His attention to detail and atmosphere are his trademarks. The premier wildlife painter.

However, because a painter or artist can render something that looks like a photo termed photorealistic, does not a work of art make.

Duplicating in a photorealistic manner is sought after by the common folk when discussing portraits, but the impressonistic or surrealism is what really stands out to me.

Just look at VanGogh's works. Just outstanding to this day and some of if not the most expensive works today. Of course DaVinci's Mona Lisa is the price list monster it still has a sense of realism with a smidgen of surrealism.

Art is always, always an investment that grows in value when you acquire from an artist who is bigger than life.

There are these Chinese sweat shop painters who dupe masterpieces or slabby out landscapes by the boat load. People buy this crap and they think it's art. It is technically but they have the chance of growing in value as much as your toenails.

Art thieves are still running amok around the world and it's a cautionary note not to blab about your art collection.
