How fast do you crap out your PC or laptop?

Mine is one year old and its slower than one I had since 2002. I had to reformat the old one so it really has nothing on it, but net laptop is already slower than hell...

I'm not talking about upgrade. Working on it. I have external hard drives to back up content but I still manage to trash it in less than a year. Programs, loads of mail, personal stuff, work with photos...

My desktop PC is about 6-8 years old.

It started off as a 900Mhz, SB Audigy, 512 ram, gforce 3. It's gone through four mother boards, three cpus, two sound cards, three video cards, countless ram, and countless harddrives.

It's now a.
Overclocked Athlon 3000+
2.5 gigs ram
GT 6800
SB 7.1 audio

The only thing still left from the original config is the case, and floppy drive. And it's never ran slow a day in it's life. Program wise I keep my computers very clean and organized. I don't just install anything and everything that comes my way. Nore do I install them anywhere they want on my PC using default options.

I've had my PC for nearly four years. I've added a DVD burner, more RAM and a larger hard drive, as well as a USB 2.0 card. I'll be buying a new one in the next few months. My last laptop lasted about a year and a half. I can still use it, but the battery life is less than an hour and the AC adapter is fucked.

Sounds like some folks have lost the art of PC maintenance.

They slow down if you don't flush them out occasionally. If you don't know how to tweak it - format, reload the OS and start fresh.

Think: partition (for starters).

i've had mine for 4 years and other than hard drive space, have no real reason to replace it. it got slow so i added some ram and its good as new. i try to replace them every few years but don't always.
