I tried to like Firefox but any advantages are not worth switching between browsers for personal surfing and work (or incompatible sites). Maybe there is some great plugin I haven't seen that would win me over but as far as security, passwords, etc. I've never felt those should be browser dependent and the 3rd party stuff I use has served me well for years because it is portable and browser independent...and I'm compatable with basically every site I visit by sticking with IE.

Edit: 50 browser wars

These days, running into a site thats not compatible with the gecko (mozilla rendering engine) seem to be few and far between. Hell, Microsoft even made live.com compatible with Firefox because.. guess what browser most microsoft developers use.. and its not IE.

I'm of the mindset that any site that is written so poorly that it will only work in IE is not a site worth using anyways.. most of the time thats pretty much the case.

doesn't matter whether you feel those should be browser dependent or not, it's a fact that most exploits are for and work on IE with new ones coming all the time

I try to not put any browser specific code in my pages but I do check them in other browsers when I'm not sure or if a script is expected to act differently between browsers; but for my personal surfing I'm not interested in rows of navigation, tabs, toolbars or anything else I could launch seperately. Until I get back into my house my laptop is both my work computer and personal surfing computer so it's much smoother to stick with one browser. I'm more interested in seeing webpages than the browser so I fit every thing I need on a single smallest line with IE.

Just a numbers game. As users of any platform grow so will be the exploits. Regardless of what platform you use if you aren't proactive you will be exploited...

Am I the only person using tabbed browsing in ie with no problems at all? I've been running it for months now since Microsoft first released it.

For passwords I've always had Roboform installed so it's not an issue.

Security is no problem at all providing you run with a firewall (ALL users should do that anyway no matter which browser) and keep ie updated.

As for stability it's never been an issue.

The only VALID reason I've seen for using firefox in this thread and it's a good one. It's the reason I have firefox installed and use it sometimes. The extensions can be very handy for certain tasks and for customising.

Any site that will only work in IE is a piece of shit site and its webmaster should be shot. Firefox is even tollerant of some stupid mistakes, it just dosent let you be a complete idiot about it. If you cant form your HTML well enough to make it render with other broswers, then the life of a webmaster is not for you. Get a different job.

Companies and organizations who design thier websites only to work with one browser (and browser) usually dont have a relationship with me to begin with. As soon as I see it, I look for another company to do business with. As far as I am concerned, companies that think this way will only be more problems down the road due to closed mindedness, one track thought and apporaches to problems.

My credit union's online banking system used to only work with IE. I called and complained for a while. Then one day, I went in and told them I wanted to close all of my accounts and pull my CDs. Thats 11 checking accounts, 3 savings, a money market and two small CDs. When they asked why, I told them that given a choice between switching browsers and switching financial institutions, I decided they would go. The credit union being a small one, promised to see if it could be fixed, if I'd stick around. A couple of weeks later, they announced that a new online banking system was going to be launched.

yup, and most people use Windows because it's so much better than unix

and most people use pc's because they're so much better than macs

most people are lazy and stupid, and use what's put in front of them.

Very true but your examples really aren't good ones. There are very good arguments why for most people windows IS much better than *nix and why PC's can be considered better for many users than macs. Arguing against something because it's popular is as blind and stupid as arguing for something because it is and that's exactly what you're doing.

As far as saving passwords, I use web replay...I also got a USB stick. All passwords are saved on the USB stick(encoded) Now when I stick it on my other pc, it is using all passwords from the stick....Works great since I have a ton of passwords, and use different computers all the time
