California may pass law: No new puppies.

All owners must get them fixed....

This one will be a fight.

That would be a good thing.

Puppy stores turn out dogs endlessly from puppy mills. That's why the pounds and shelters are so overloaded and so many cats and dogs just get euthanized in short order.

There needs to be stricter controls nationwide on this issue.

So eventually California will have no new dogs at all? This doesn't make any sense.

More government control and laws is not a good thing. Cripes. Requiring all dogs to get snipped? No way.

Like this would ever pass anyways.

I have met several politicians in my life, mostly from California. Seems that nearly all of them are dog owners anyways. Strictly purebreeds to my eyes and well they also seemed to appreciate breeding them. This type of law would really go against a personal thing with them and that rarely happens.

As for those that think this is good, why? Do you always feel it is necessary to punish the responsible for what the irresponsible does?

Then if that is the case why can they not first go after cats? Dogs have more than enough regulations against them anyways that prevent them from wondering around out side of yards without leashes and such. Where as cats can roam freely and always seem to get knocked up a whole lot easier.

Lastly why run legitimate breeders out of business? Really does not seem all that fair that because some assholes can not control their own animals that others may have their own business stripped from them.

I'm guessing you're going to need some sort of license to be a breeder, otherwise, FIX YOUR FUCKING DOG!!

This is a great idea. My pup is only 4 months old. The first thing I'm doing as soon as she's old enough is getting the bitch spayed.

Honestly so be it. Hell eat them, sell them for research, whatever. Yeah they should not be there but it typically is the fault of irresponsible pet owners.

It is punishment for those that do like to breed dogs in a responsible way. Some people make their living from breeding purebred dogs. Others like to continue a certain lineage.

Now if we could do this to people who abuse welfare and have to many kids, it would be great!

I'am sick and tired of seeing people of all races having to many kids, when they can't afford one.

I perfer the goveremnt to step in on this one, I'am not a fan of animals getting killed.

What is FUCKED up is all these complete fucking losers who buy a puppy and and then dump them off after a few months.

LESS puppies is a good thing. I hope this law passes.

There should also be a law passed to outlaw pet shops that sell puppies. Some of the stores have financing so if some broke fucking C-U-N-T-S cannot afford to buy a dog then can't just make payments on it like it is a big screen TV.

Those fucking C-U-N-T-S finance a puppy and then when the puppy gets sick they cannot afford the vet bills. So then the puppy ends up in a shelter.

I've seen what people do to their animals....a legitimate breeder is licensed and doesn't run a puppy mill...

but there are those who won't fix their animals....and let them run loose to knock up every dog in the area and then there are strays, born in the streets, dumped in the woods to fend for themselves, get hit by cars....

These people are so irresponsible...they think dogs actually love to live outside in the rain and cold...

Never tell my dogs that. They believe in sleeping in the middle of our bed.

If you're not going to breed responsibly, whether it's a cat or a dog, fix them.

it s a good law here in GA I was reading 90% of dogs in pounds are put to death. Its so sad good animals that were no longer in the cute puppy stage. When we adopted CJ he was 8 yrs all covered in flakes, sores and had a bad limp. IF I didnt adopt him would of been killed. Now with love and proper nutrition and care he is a beautiful happy dog and the greatest pet. People are very irresponsible with pets only licensed breeders should breed dogs. Anyone breeding weakens the breeds anyway.

After Shock Media - they go after dogs before cats because lots of people are bitten by homeless dogs.

i saved two newborn infant kittens at different times who were abandoned by their mothers - who were abandoned by their owners. we also once saved a german shepard who we found living on a freeway embankment. the vet said she had been systematically beaten and at one time her previous owners had broken her pelvis.

people should be responsible for their pets - but the truth is, most aren't.

I worry about the dogs that would be dumped right after it became law but in the long run as long as they licenses are given out in a fair manner and it doesn't become a reserve of the rich then I don't have a major problem with it. Though I bet not that many follow the law.

I agree with the intent of the law. Too many dogs in shelters, too many dogs being bred in horrible conditions. It's really sad to see animals in cages waiting on death without knowing it, when all they really want is a home and some love.

I also think they'll use the law to slowly de-populate some of the more aggressive breeds of dogs from the state as well.
