Is it as good as the first Mario Kart? I don't keep up with Nintendo so no idea what DS even is.

Yeah. It's great on the Wi-Fi. You can play some of the old school snes levels on here too.

I've also been playing Final Fight. The old school games are were its at for sure.

You won't be disappointed. My ex's kid had one and when he swiped my PSP I'd play Mario Kart.

I still play the SNES version on my XBOX at least once a week.
