How pissed would you be if u link to sponsor but cant get credit for sales?

I put links up to a new ccbill sponsors site in my best advertising spot on my best page (not millioins of clicks/day but still, big for me) and i wondered why no sales were coming in so i

1. clicked my link (ccbill linking code)
2. went to the join page
3. viewed source, and searched for my ccbill affiliate ID

to find out it was NOT tracking my sales at ALL? the sponsor had the WRONG linking codes in the hosted galleries on their webmaster tools page

how mad would you be? i'm VERY pissed i wasted that traffic, but some people are sensing to me that i am over reacting.......am i over reacting for throwing traffic & money in the garbage?

I'd be pissed off. Contact the sponsor and ask them what they plan to do to make amends to you. See what happens.

I would be pissed as well. The thing is I toss a lot of money at shit programs on a monthly basis with good linking codes so it probably wouldn't bother me as much.

really really totally sucks when you send quality traffic, to a quality looking site and doing so without knowing that there is not even 1% chance you can get credited with a sale

good thing i checked out the linking code, probably should do that to them all, i dont think we as affiliates should have to do that, but this is what it's come to nowdays

lets just clarify here .. the affiliate area gave you the wrong tracking code ? or your tracking code is being swapped ?

I have seen sponsor who do this before ( the fhg''s have a house code on them not yours )

If it's a sponsor error you should be compensated. That's how we would handle it...

the affiliate area gives us affiliates the wrong ccbill linking code, the code still lets the surfer arrive on their page, but without our ccbill linking code involved, so no credit to affiliate for sale

gotcha i have seen lazy affiliate areas that ccbill sites run that just say (insert your code where it says XXX) or something. like they didnt understand how to pass your ccbill id to the links so they leave it up to you to do.. very lazy.

Sould've checked that before linking to them if not, really is your own mistake. I've done that recently where hosted gallies from a well-known sponsor had probs with their codes that messed up my linkcode. It was unintentional mistake on sponsor's part but I still linked to them kinda on faith without checking was really my bad. I just notified the sponsor and they got it fixed on the double. Hey we are all human, sponsors error so do we too.

you cant see it anywhere, you have to right click and view source, then you should do a "find" and you should be able to find your affiliate ID number in there, if you dont then you wont get credit for sales

What I love even more is the same sponsors "conversions are great" when everyone asks if sales are down. Of course they are, you get extra clicks from all kinds of shit that dropped the affiliate codes.

i did, 1 site is fixed, still waiting for the other to get fixed...........and yes i do think was honest mistake, sucks tho because 1 of these sites is like a year old, so for the whole time if affiliates were linking to their hosted galleries they havent been getting sales for the WHOLE time!

That's happened to me 4 - 5 times with various sponsors. Just fix your links and keep on keeping on.

ok i dont think some of you understand what i mean:

lets say my affiliate id is: 1234567

i use the hosted gallery links generator, it tells me to link to this:
sitename.com/webmasters/set/?ccbill=1234567

well, there are links in that hosted gallery that carry your aff ID, and here's the link the hosteds carry
refer.ccbill.com/cgi-bin/clicks.cgi?CA=1111111-0001&PA=ccbill=1234567&HTML=http://www.siteurl.com

with that =ccbill= coding we get NO credit for any sale

sounds like a newbie site owner plus if he didn't catch it in 1 year he probably doesn't have many affiliates or the sites must not convert very well otherwise, if he saw referring url being a hosted galleries without an affiliate ID should've been alarmed I'd understand 1 or 2 galleries having a prob but if all.. why not post the proggy name so we can all be careful not to make the same mistake as you?

Even if it was an honest mistake you need to say who the sponsor is. Other affiliates may not have been aware of this problem (and may never be if it's quietly fixed without a broadcast email)

jscott, to answer your question I would be pissed as well.

I am even more pissed that this fault appears to have been rectified but the affiliates have not been notified that there was an error and they need to change their links if they want to get credit.

I heard yesterday and I didn't check anything until today because I thought it would have been changes to the sponsor side code. My bad for not checking sooner.

Unlike you I probably have not sent anywhere near the same volume as you but I am still pissed.

JScott you have every right to be seriously pissed. I had a similar thing happen the other day with a sponsor who was stealing traffic (intentionally) and everyone acted like I was overreacting to point it out. People have become so used to sponsor theft or incompetence that they consider it rude if you have the nerve to point it out.

Did you misread the referring code? Maybe the webmaster is telling you to replace =ccbill with your unique ref code.. If i saw that linking code i know something is wrong and i would fix it and inform the site owner.. Plus if you go into the tool section in your ccbill admin it should display the right ccbill code for you to use..

CCBill admin does not have links displayed for the site in question. If jscott did what I did and copied the link code from the webmaster admin of the site then it was the wrong one. They are using an auto link generator. They had the wrong links posted to use.

when you go to this sponsors site it prompts you to enter your ccbill id, then they automatically insert your ID's in all the hosteds/potds/ etc etc etc

but since i do believe was honest mistake i wont post here, who the sites are, but if you promote NN sites icq me and i'll tell you, since both the sites are NN........

That happened to me a couple times.

One sponsor had several templates that were dropping the affiliate code.

Generally, I always hard coding ccbill citations. The result is increased traffic stats as well as sales after I started doing that.

So, there may be more mistakes than most people think.
