Ask Me Anything About Erotic Stories

Hey guys, everyone here has taught me so much, I thought I'd try to give a little back. I'm a published erotica author. I've written for Playgirl, Penthouse Variations and I'm in the Best New Erotica Writers Anthology and the Best S/M Anthology and lots more.

I know some of you like to write erotica for fun, maybe you'd like to use it on your sites (it's a great sticky content item). If you have a burning question about erotic fiction - ask away!!

Hey Cyn... when it comes to the stories you are THE BOMB! Well in other ways too for that matter. But I do have a question:

Do you find that the stories create a better attraction for an increasing market of women looking at erotic material online or are you finding men as the primary market?

Also is there a preferred length? Do people like longer multi poage stories or just the old several paragraphs of like a Penthouse Forum?

Onay one more... has anyone tried serializing an erotic story? Doing them a chapter at a time in a weekly updated fashion to keep people interested?

Ah, a tricky question. There are people who offers some you can use for free like

But you're better off buying a story pack.

Text Writers has some

JDSampson (my alter ego) has a couple.

Or you could hire a writer to craft stories for your niche but that might cost you $20 per story and up.

You're a bad writer?

Hard to tell. There's a lot of competition to get published in the big mags like Penthouse. You have to study the magazine and craft a story that fits in with the style, length and niche they usually publish. Then you have to build up a thick skin, because with writing comes rejection. Variations told me "don't quit your day job" when I sent them my first story. So I learned more, honed my skills and now I've published with them a number of times. So never say never.

Great questions! And thanks for the praise. In the studies I've done, most men say they don't read fiction, but I find it hard to believe that only women are grabbing up all the stuff that's out there. Certainly, stories are a way to get the female market to your site. We love stories! Good ones, though, not just a string of four letter words (which is another whole can of worms). Oddly, most of my commission work has been for men - and the story I wrote for the Best New Erotica anthology was a "man's" story as well, so I know they're out there.

Welcome to short attention span theater. When it comes to the web, people don't read long stories. 1200 words is max. A lot of what you see comes in around 800. That's not a lot to put in plot and sex and more sex. Which brings me nicely to. . .

This is always a good idea because it brings people back to your site and it prevents the "too long to read in one sitting" problem. This is also why fictionalized blogs work well, people come back each day to see the next part of the story. The key here though is each piece has to be sexy and exciting and cliff hanger into the next piece. It's not that easy.

I worked with a mistress and I wrote a blog that seemed to be her talking about training of a particular slave each day of a week. So for example, it's Frank's week and he's put through his paces Mon, Tues, Weds, each day he's subjected to some new sexy torment - climaxing (so to speak) by Friday's edition of the blog.

A great tool but time consuming to do well.

Sorry to line all these answers up in a row, but I gotta dash out in a minute.

So, the answer is OFTEN! If I don't get turned on then I'm not doing a very good job writing, am I??? The only exception is when I'm hired to write in a niche that really doesn't do it for me and that's tough. For example, I'm needle squimish, so if I had to write a sexy piercing story that would be tough. I could probably do it with some research but it wouldn't turn me on.
