We looked at a lot of different places and Austin kept coming out near or at the top of every list we made. We went there for 3 days beginning of December and by the end of day 1, we knew we were moving. By the time we got on the plane we had already bought a house. The weather in Austin is not much different from where we are in Southern Cal, plus, being boaters, living 2 minutes from Lake Travis beats the shit out of driving 4 1/2 hours to Lake Havasu. We were impressed with Austin on so many levels, too many to even count. Yes, property taxes are higher than here, by about 1% (and they don't have prop 13) but no state income tax pretty much washes that factor out. I'll miss the Chargers of course, but I kept my season tickets and am selling them to a friend on a season by season basis. Austin to SD is less than 200 bucks round trip so I will still make a couple of games per year. Honestly, I can't think of anything other than the Chargers that I will miss here, I'm really looking forward to the move. |
